Thomas S. Chirkot, Ph.D, P.E., 62, a resident of Swoyersville, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 11, 2018, at his home.
His loving wife is Wanda M. (Vnuk) Chirkot. Tom and Wanda would have celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on October 7th.
Born on September 07, 1955, in Kingston, Thomas was the only son of the late Thomas and Mary (Banas) Chirkot.
Raised in Plymouth, Tom was a graduate of Wyoming Valley West High School, Class of 1973. He went on to further his education at Bloomsburg University where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology, and Wilkes University where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. He then went on to receive his Master of Science Degree in Biochemistry from the University of Scranton; his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the Union Institute and University, Cincinnati, Ohio; and took additional courses to attain his accreditation as a Professional Engineer of Electrical Engineering.
Tom was currently employed as a General Manager for Hebeler LLC, Tonawanda, New York, formerly Patterson-Kelley, and was recently appointed to serve on the company’s Board of Directors.
A U.S. Patent holder and published author, Tom patented an apparatus for continuous blending of pharmaceuticals, and his knowledge and expertise led him to contribute to text books and write editorials for various pharmaceutical publications.
Tom was a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville, and a past member of the former Holy Name/Saint Mary’s Parish Community, Swoyersville.
A longstanding member of the Y.M.C.A. in Wilkes-Barre, Tom was an avid weight lifter and runner.
One of Tom’s greatest enjoyments in life was traveling with his family. Together, they were blessed to travel to various places throughout the world. He was also a great fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Penn State Nittany Lions, and the music of Bruce Springsteen.
Although his presence will be missed beyond measure, Tom will forever be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, dad, and grandpa.
In addition to his wife, Wanda, Tom is survived by his beloved children, Thomas S. Chirkot Jr., Forty Fort; and Marisa Lewis and her husband, Steve, Pittston; his granddaughter and light of his life, Hazel Lewis; his brother-in-law, Frank Vnuk and his wife, Judi, Plymouth; his nieces, nephews, friends, and colleagues; and his faithful companion, his dog, Fergus.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral which will be conducted on Saturday, June 16, 2018, at 9:30 AM from the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, with the Reverend Joseph J. Pisaneschi, his Pastor, officiating.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Cemetery, Swoyersville.
