Thomas R. Wozniak, 80, a resident of Luzerne, passed away early Sunday morning, September 26, 2021, at his home. Prior to moving to Luzerne in 2020, Tom was a 50-year resident of Forty Fort.
Tom and his wife, Johanna (Santee) celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on August 31, 2021.
Born on April 21, 1941, in Kingston, Thomas was the son of the late Peter and Alberta (Cywinski) Wozniak. His twin brother, Theodore R. Wozniak, passed away on June 06, 2009.
Raised in Swoyersville, Tom was a graduate of the former Swoyersville High School, Class of 1959.
Following high school, Tom enlisted with the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, serving for 4 years with the 109th Field Artillery Battalion.
For 35 years, Tom was employed as a furnace operator for the former Owens-Illinois Inc., Jenkins Township. Upon his retirement, he launched a second career as a para-educator for the Wyoming Valley West School District. Throughout his life, he worked many “side jobs” which reflected his strong work ethic; his skills and talents; and his devotion to giving his family all he could.
Tom was a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville.
A man of many enjoyments, Tom especially loved watching the Philadelphia Phillies and enjoyed the many games he attended with his son and sons-in-law. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting with his dad, brother, and extended family; and was also an avid bowler. He loved taking his children to the Forty Fort pool, a pastime he later enjoyed with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed family vacations, and his all-time favorite vacations were spent camping with his family at Otter Lake in the Pocono’s. He loved his wife’s cooking, and was known for his love of “chubby bears” always having them with him!
In addition to his wife, Johanna, Tom is survived by his five children, Susan Lettera, Macungie; Thomas (Ninaleigh) Wozniak, Forty Fort; twin daughters, Deborah (Mark) Davis, Forty Fort, and Donna (Norman) McIver, Kingston; and Corinne (Walter) Pickett, Ridgefield, Connecticut; his seven grandchildren, Mark (Amanda) Davis; Brittney (Jordan) Gray; Joseph and Johanna Lettera; Tyler Wozniak; and Caroline and Madeline Pickett; his six great-grandchildren; his aunt, Josephine Wozniak, Kingston; and his nieces and nephews.
The Wozniak Family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Compassionate Care Hospice for their excellent care for Tom, and for the support they gave Tom’s family.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 02, 2021, at 10:00 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, with the Reverend Joseph J. Pisaneschi, his Pastor, officiating. Family and Friends may assemble directly at the church on Saturday morning.
