Thomas H. Gulla, 84, a resident of Swoyersville, passed into eternal life on Tuesday morning, September 07, 2021, at Allied Hospice, Inpatient Unit, Wilkes-Barre.
His beloved wife was the late Geraldine M. (Bravyak) Gulla, who passed away on December 28, 2018. Together, Thomas and Geraldine shared 51 beautiful years of marriage.
Born on December 01, 1936, in Swoyersville, Thomas was the son of the late John and Anna (Troyanovich) Gulla.
A lifelong resident of Swoyersville, Tom was a graduate of the former Swoyersville High School, Class of 1954.
A United States Navy veteran, Tom honorably served his country for nearly four years following the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge on December 17, 1958, he attained the rank of Radioman 3rd Class.
Prior to his retirement, Tom was employed for nearly 40 years as a carpenter for Yocum Construction, Kingston. He then went on to do carpentry work for his family and friends until the age of 75.
Tom was a devout Catholic and a lifelong member of the former Holy Trinity Church, Swoyersville, and following the consolidation of his church, he became a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville.
A proud veteran, Tom was a life-member of the American Legion, Andrew Lawrence Post 644, Swoyersville.
Tom was a man who enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, especially tending to his flower garden and his vegetable garden. He was a diehard fan of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers since the 1960’s, and was also a great fan of all Notre Dame sports and the New York Yankees.
Above all, Tom was a devoted family man, and the love he had for his family was boundless. His grandson, Marc, was the apple of his eye and he was looking forward to being at his college graduation this coming year. Although his presence will be deeply missed, there is much joy in knowing he is reunited in heaven with his loving wife and all his loved ones who have gone before him.
In addition to his parents, John and Anna Gulla, and his wife, Geraldine, Tom was preceded in death by his brothers, Stephen Yonik, John Gulla, Joseph Gula, Andrew Gulla, and George Gulla; his sisters, Theresa Gulla, Elizabeth Gavlick, Mary Brutko, Anna Novroski, and Helen Gaydos.
Tom is survived by his daughters, Deborah “Debbie” Kolendowicz and her husband, Gregg, Larksville; Denise Chorey, Dallas; and Susan Cheremsak and her husband, Andrew, Silverdale, Washington; his grandchildren, Marc Kolendowicz, Christopher Chorey, and Amber Cheremsak; his sister, Veronica Novroski, Swoyersville; as well as generations of nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff at Allied Hospice, Wilkes-Barre, for the compassionate care they bestowed upon Tom during his time of need. Also, special thanks to his friends, Aaron Pietryka and Tom Wiedlich, from Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., for their friendship and care for Tom both in life and in death.
