Susan Kawalkewicz, 93, formerly of Dana Street, Swoyersville, passed into eternal life peacefully on Tuesday morning, November 21, 2017, at ManorCare Health and Rehabilitation Center, Kingston, where she was recently a guest.
Her beloved husband was the late John Kawalkewicz, who passed away on October 23, 1981. Together, John and Susan shared 34 wonderful years of marriage.
Born on April 02, 1924, in Swoyersville, Susan was one of seven children born to the late George and Mary Kovalick.
Raised in Swoyersville, Susan was a graduate of the former Swoyersville High School, Class of 1943, where she was a member of the girls’ basketball team.
A quintessential homemaker, Susan lovingly tended to the daily needs of her home and family. She kept an immaculate home, and was a talented seamstress who fashioned clothing for her children and draperies for her home. In addition to her role as a homemaker, she worked for some years as a seamstress for the former Slocum Dress Factory and the former United Pants Factory.

Susan was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion, Andrew Lawrence Post 644, Swoyersville, and also held membership with the Swoyersville Senior Citizens.
A woman of many enjoyments, Susan especially enjoyed family gatherings, dancing to Polka’s, baking nut and poppy seed rolls at the holidays, and gardening around her home.
Family was the greatest joy in Susan’s life and she cherished every moment she had with her loved ones. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were truly the light of her life. Although her presence will be greatly missed, her beautiful and gentle spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of her beloved family.
In addition to her parents, George and Mary Kovalick, and her husband, John, Susan was preceded in death by her son, Richard Kole; her daughter, Donna Kawalkewicz Biga; her infant daughter, Cheryl Ann Kawalkewicz; her brothers, George, John and Bernard Kovalick; and her sisters, Anna Remaykis, Mary Krakosky, and Margaret Kovalick.
Susan is survived by her daughters, Patricia Obielecki and her husband, Ronald, Harrisburg; and Deborah Sieminski and her husband, Joseph, Swoyersville; her daughter-in-law, Carol Kole, Larksville; her son-in-law, Michael Biga, Swoyersville; her grandchildren, Christie (John) Carr, Nicholas (Kaitlin) Obielecki, Nichole (Brian) Hampel, Katie (Ned) Connolly, Matthew (Dana) Sieminski, Jessica (Eric) Maney, and Brittany Kole; her great-grandchildren, A.J., Brady, Cole, Adelyn, Aurora, Callen, and Torin; as well as generations of nieces and nephews.
