Sophie (Smolko) Konieczny, 92, a former longtime resident of North Pennsylvania Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday afternoon, January 27, 2016, at Anderson Personal Care Center of the Wesley Village Campus, Pittston, where she had resided for the past several years.
Her beloved husband was the late Joseph F. Konieczny, who passed away on July 01, 2004. Joseph and Sophie were united in marriage on June 28, 1984, and together shared 20 beautiful years of marriage. Their reunion in heaven was definitely celebrated with their favorite thing to do together, dancing!
Born on September 03, 1923, in Wilkes-Barre, Sophie was one of four children born to the late Albert and Sophie (Piontek) Smolko.
Sophie was a graduate of James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre.
Prior to her retirement, Sophie was employed as a seamstress in the local garment industry, working for various garment manufacturers in the Wyoming Valley. She held membership with the International Ladies Garment Workers Union.
A faithful Catholic, Sophie was a lifelong member of the former Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre.
In her earlier years, Sophie had a passion for traveling and was fortunate to take several trips to Europe and Asia.
In addition to her parents, Albert and Sophie Smolko, and her husband, Joseph, Sophie was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph J. Smolko; and her sister, Mary Griglock.
Sophie is survived by her sister, Emily DeAngelis, Plains Township; as well as her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Relatives and Friends are invited to attend Sophie’s viewing which will be held on Friday, February 05, 2016, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM, at the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort.
The funeral will be conducted on Saturday, February 06, 2016, at 9:30 AM from the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, with the Reverend Joseph J. Pisaneschi, Pastor, officiating.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Cemetery, Dallas.
