Sophie M. Drost, 98, a resident of Forty Fort, passed into eternal life on Wednesday morning, July 02, 2025, at the Meadows Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Dallas, where she was recently a guest.
Her beloved husband of over 52 years was the late Frank J. Drost who passed away on September 22, 2004.
Born on July 28, 1926, in Swoyersville, Sophie was one of six children born to the late Thomas Pyryt and Mary Gerlak Pyryt.
Raised in Swoyersville, Sophie was a graduate of the former Swoyersville High School, Class of 1944. Following high school, she went on to further her education at the former Wilkes-Barre Business College.
Sophie worked for a short time for the Social Security Administration in Washington, D.C. Upon her return home, she and her husband started their family, with Sophie becoming a devoted homemaker to her husband and four children.
A devout Catholic, Sophie was a longtime member of the former Saint Mary of Czestochowa Church, Swoyersville, and following its consolidation, she became a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville.
Sophie had many enjoyments throughout her life, especially watching the Polka’s on WVIA, and traveling up and down the East Coast from Canada to Florida.
A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Sophie truly excelled in her role as mother! She was a constant source of encouragement to her children and had an admirable moral compass – she instilled her children with the value of being the “best you!” Although her presence will be missed beyond words, the beautiful legacy she leaves behind will forever be cherished by her loved ones.
In addition to her parents, Thomas and Mary Pyryt, and her husband, Frank, Sophie was preceded in death by her brother, Frank J. Pyryt; and her sisters, Cecilia Chorey and Alicia Pyryt.
Left to cherish Sophie’s memory are her four children, Frank Drost, Vero Beach, Florida; Mariane Drost-Whalen, Willow Street; David Drost and his wife, Karen, Harveys Lake; and Daniel Drost and his wife, Corinne, Trucksville; her three grandchildren, Anthony Whalen; Alyssia Pond and her husband, Jeffrey; and Daniel Drost; her sisters, Marian Pyryt, Mechanicsburg; and Evelyn McHugh, Chardon, Ohio; as well as generations of nieces and nephews; cousins; and extended family.
