Shirley M. Richards, 84, passed away early Friday morning, May 25, 2018, at the Partridge-Tippett Nursing Facility of the Wesley Village Campus, Jenkins Township.
Her beloved husband of 51 years was the late Richard E. “Dick” Richards, who passed away on May 18, 2011.
Born on October 14, 1933, in Wilkes-Barre, Shirley was the only daughter of the late Anthony and Genevieve (Hartzel) Smith.
Raised in Wilkes-Barre, Shirley was a graduate of G.A.R. Memorial High School, Wilkes-Barre.
For many years, Shirley and Richard resided in Damascus, Maryland, and retired to Beverly Hills, Florida where they resided for 15 years. In 2011, Shirley returned to the local area to be closer to her family.
Prior to her retirement, Shirley was employed as an Executive Secretary for the Regional Institute for Children and Adolescents, Rockville, Maryland.
In addition to her parents, Anthony and Genevieve Smith, and her husband, Richard, Shirley was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Nancylee Schutter.
Shirley is survived by her brother-in-law, Thomas Richards Sr. and his wife, Kathleen, Laflin; her sister-in-law, Ruth Turner and her husband, Paul, North Carolina; her brother-in-law, James Schutter, Michigan; and her numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A private funeral service was held on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, with the Reverend William Lukesh, officiating.
Interment followed in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township.
