Ronald E. “Mr. Yock” Yockey, 82, a resident of Roaring Brook Township, Moscow, passed away, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, August 08, 2023, in the comfort of his home.
His loving wife is Coleen Harris Yockey. Ron and Coleen would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on December 5th.
Born on April 03, 1941, in Nebraska City, Nebraska, Ronald was the son of the late Robert E. Yockey and Bonnie Leckenby Yockey.
Raised in Kansas, Ron was a 1959 graduate of Erie High School, Erie, Kansas. He went on to learn the trade he carried throughout his entire life at the National Meat Cutting School in Toledo, Ohio.
Prior to his retirement in 1999, Ron was employed for 22 years as a sales representative for Hatfield Quality Meats, Hatfield, PA. After retirement, he worked for 10 years as a meat broker for Liedy’s LLC, Souderton, with his territory covering all of Eastern Pennsylvania.
A connoisseur of meats commingled with his passion for his profession, led him to establish his family business, Mr. Yock’s BBQ. It all began at the Moscow Country Fair where his expertise with meats led many to encourage the opening of his business. From Florida to Iowa, Ron and his family participated in countless cooking contests, most notably competing in many rib fests, and winning many awards. Additionally, he and his family prepared the chicken barbecues for Gerrity’s Supermarkets Customer Appreciation Days for many years. More recently, he was proud to see his granddaughter expand upon his business, keeping the legacy of Mr. Yock’s BBQ very much alive.
Ron has many enjoyments in life with the “first and foremost” being cooking. He most especially loved making and smoking kielbasa and cheese. He also enjoyed camping with his family, going out on his motorcycle, and working around his shop at his home.
Above all, family was the greatest treasure in Ron’s life, cherishing every moment he shared with his loved ones, and leaving behind a beautiful legacy that will continue to live on in the hearts of family for generations to come.
In addition to his parents, Robert and Bonnie, Ron was preceded in death by his son, Phillip Yockey; his granddaughter, Ashley Ives; and his brother, Larry Don Yockey.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Coleen; and their children, Tammy Edwards, Moscow; Robert “Bill” Yockey and his wife, Karen, Dupont; and Ronda Dubiel, Spring Brook Twp.; his eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; his brother, Robert Yockey and his wife, Phyllis, Missouri; his sister, Judy Hopkins and her husband, Neil, Missouri; as well as his numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2023, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Duffy and Snowdon Funeral Home, 401 Church Street, Moscow, with a memorial service to commence at 6:00 PM.
