Ronald A. Hankey Sr., 74, a resident of Exeter, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, April 02, 2024, at the Wilkes Barre General Hospital.

His loving wife of 50 years is Judith “Judy” Thompson Hankey. Judy was the light of Ron’s life, spending every waking moment together.

Born on September 16, 1949, in West Pittston, Ronald was the son of the late George Hankey Sr. and Helen Miller Hankey, and he was a graduate of the former West Pittston High School.

Ron was employed for 35 years by Nicholas Trucking, Inc., Courtdale, retiring from there. Additionally, he served as Shop Steward for the Teamsters Union.

Prior to marrying Judy, Ron stepped up and helped her raise her sister, Mary Ellen, and brothers, Robert Thompson and Edward Thompson Sr. without a second thought. He treated those children, later his sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, like they were his own.

Throughout his life, Ron always had a love for animals. From birds to German Shepherds, to Lhasa Apsos and miniature Poodles, Daisy and Skits were his forever fur babies, never leaving his side. Ron also had a love for model trains, starting his collection almost 50 years ago. He could always be seen at the local train shows with his son, occasionally sneaking a new train set home without telling his wife. The steam locomotive was his favorite type of train.

Those who knew Ron knew his life was full of love and laughter, and no one knew this better than his grandchildren, as they were his entire world. From soccer, baseball and softball, to football on Sunday’s, Pop Pop was always there.

In addition to his parents, George and Helen Hankey, Ron was preceded in death by his brother, James Hankey; his brothers-in-law, Edward Thompson Sr. and Frank Sims.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Judy, and their two children, Nicole Sherrill and her husband, Ray, Wyoming; and Ron Hankey and his wife, Monica, West Wyoming; his adored grandchildren, Raeann Sherrill, Nikolas Sherrill, and Kaydence Hankey. Also surviving are his brothers, a sister, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Ron’s viewing which will be held on Monday, April 08, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort. A Blessing Service will commence at 12:30 PM, with Deacon John F. Bankus, Deacon of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville, officiating.

Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Hanover Township.
