Robert “Michael” Paraventi, “Scow,” died on Monday, June 01, 2026, at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia, surrounded by loved ones at the age of 76. Although Michael had been ill, his death was sudden and unexpected.
A resident of Swoyersville for the past 17 years, Michael was born in Wilkes-Barre and for many years was a resident of the family home on Darling Street in the North End. It was here the Round Table became the gathering spot for a large and varied friend group for many years. It was here that teams were celebrated or vilified, Saints were canonized, life events were celebrated, wars were won or lost, and some friends and family were mourned.
Michael was a graduate of Coughlin High School, Class of 1968. He was employed for many years at City Heights. In his younger years Michael played Softball with The Beer Store, and he was an avid golfer. His love of Notre Dame football and the New York Yankees was well understood by all who knew him. Notre Dame game days were a revered tradition at his house.
Michael was the son of the late Elizabeth Roche Paraventi and the grandson of the late Peter Roche and Teresa Trenkle Roche. Michael is survived by his wife Emily Hewitt Paraventi; his son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Becky Costello, Shavertown; his daughter and son-in-law, Traci and James Kilgallon, Forty Fort; his granddaughters, Emma and Isabel Kilgallon and Harper Coursin; his sister, Lynette Villano, Edwardsville; and his sister and brother-in-law, Susan Paraventi and Alan Eldridge of Orleans, Massachusetts; his niece, Lisa Mulvey; his nephew, Ron Villano; and 2 great-nephews. Michael’s love of his granddaughters sustained him, and their “Pop Pop” was deeply loved by them. Michael is also survived by a large and loved family group of friends of whom Michael’s personality was the center. He loved and was loved in return.
