Robert J. “Bob” Sieminski, 83, a resident of Laflin, passed away unexpectedly on Friday afternoon, February 19, 2021, at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
His loving wife is Marilyn (McGuire) Sieminski. Together, Bob and Marilyn celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on April 18th.
Born on June 23, 1937, in Swoyersville, Bob was one of six children born to the late Casimir “Charles” Sieminski and Elizabeth (Stevens) Sieminski Casey.
Raised in Swoyersville, Bob was a graduate of the former Swoyersville High School, where he played football, basketball, and baseball.
Following high school, he went on to attend Michigan State University, where he acquired his Bachelor of Science degree in education. During his years at Michigan State, he was a member of its football team. He later went on to attend the University of Scranton, where he acquired his Master’s degree in education.
A United States Army veteran, Bob honorably served his country during peacetime, and played football with for the U.S. Army team at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
Prior to his retirement, Bob was employed for 40 years as a physical education teacher for the Wilkes-Barre School District.
Bob served as head football and basketball coach at the former West Wyoming High School and as head football coach for 10 years at the former Plains Memorial High School. Additionally, he coached the UNICO East All-Star football team for two years. He and his four brothers were inducted into the Luzerne County/John Louis Popple Sports Hall of Fame.
Bob was a member of Saint Maria Goretti Church, Laflin, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed watching Big-10 football.
In addition to his parents, Charles and Elizabeth, Bob was preceded in death by his daughter, Dr. Lynne M. Sieminski, who passed away on August 08, 2015; his brothers, Adam and Charles Sieminski; and his sister, Mary Ann Vincavage.
In addition to his wife, Marilyn, Bob is survived by his son, Robb Sieminski, Swoyersville; his brothers, Dr. Louis Sieminski and his wife, Libby, Dallas; and Joseph Sieminski and his wife, Debbie, Swoyersville; his nieces, nephews, and his favorite friend, his beloved dog, Nittany.
A private funeral Mass will be celebrated in Saint Maria Goretti Church, Laflin, with the Reverend Seth Wasnock, his Pastor, officiating.
There will be no public calling hours.
