Robert J. Kopec, 71, a resident of Forty Fort, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday morning, November 08, 2023, at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
His loving wife is Janet C. Schwab Kopec. Together, Bob and Janet celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary on September 11th.
Born on January 27, 1952, in Kingston, Robert was one of six children born to the late Leo S. Kopec and Victoria Yagojinski Kopec.
Residing most of his life in Forty Fort, Bob was a graduate of Wyoming Valley West High School, Class of 1969. He then went on to further his education at Luzerne County Community College, and Mansfield University, where, in 1974, he acquired his bachelor’s degree in elementary education. He then went on to acquire his realtors license as well as his real estate broker license.
Prior to his retirement in 2017, Bob was employed as a realtor for Humford Realty, Wilkes-Barre, and, in his earlier years, in the same capacity for Lewith & Freeman, Kingston.
Professionally, Bob was a member of the Wilkes-Barre Association of Realtors. He served the association in many capacities over the years, most notably serving as its Past President as well as being named Realtor Associate of the Year in 1986.
Bob was a longtime member of the Kingston Rotary Club, serving as its Past President as well as on various other committees within the rotary club. Throughout his years with the Kingston Rotary Club, he was the recipient of 3 Paul Harris Fellow Awards.
Always community minded and extremely generous, Bob was an avid volunteer with the Weinberg Northeast Regional Food Bank, and was also an ardent blood donor for the American Red Cross, donating over 100 pints of blood.
Bob was a longtime member of the Odyssey Fitness Center, Wilkes-Barre, and more recently exercised at the Jewish Community Center, Kingston. When he wasn’t at the gym, he could often be found riding his bike around Forty Fort or walking his beloved dogs, Sneakers, Mattie, and Becker.
In addition to his parents, Leo and Victoria, Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas R. Kopec.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Janet; his brothers and sister, Leon Kopec and his wife, Betsy, Harrisburg; Edward Kopec and his wife, Margy, Forty Fort; Patricia Ricci and her husband, Stephen, Mission, Texas; and James Kopec and his wife, Conchi, Chipiona, Spain; his sister-in-law, Patricia Kopec, Wilkes-Barre; as well as his numerous nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a memorial visitation on Saturday, December 02, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort.
