Robert G. Allen, 77, a resident of Swoyersville, passed into eternal life on Tuesday morning, March 11, 2025, at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
His loving wife is Cynthia ‘Cindy’ Shultz Allen. Bob and Cindy were looking forward to celebrating their 57th wedding anniversary on June 29th.
Born on June 29, 1947, in Wilkes-Barre, Robert was one of three children born to the late Robert Allen and Rose Hrivnak Allen.
Raised in Swoyersville, Robert was a graduate of the former Central Catholic High School, Class of 1965.
A United States Air Force veteran, Robert honorably served his country for over four years during the Vietnam War. Having participated in two tours in Vietnam, he served alongside his fellow comrades in the Red Horse Division helping to build air fields. Among his many decorations and citations, he was most proud to be honored with the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze service stars. Upon his honorable discharge on September 07, 1970, he attained the rank of Sergeant.
Prior to his retirement in 2015, Robert was employed as a sign fabricator for Fieseler Signs Inc., Pittston and, in his earlier years, in the same capacity for Plastic Arts, Wilkes-Barre.
Robert was a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville.
A self-proclaimed “jack of all trades,” as a young man, Robert had his own band named “Two + Two,” serving as its lead singer. He also served for some years as a softball coach for the Swoyersville Girls Softball League.
An avid hunter and fisherman, Robert held membership with the Luzerne County Bassmaster’s. A lover of the outdoors, he took great pride in gardening around his home and even constructed a pond in his backyard as well as dabbling in beekeeping.
Robert’s great love for his family will be his lasting legacy. Treasuring every moment spent with his wife, daughter and son-in-law, he will forever be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, father-in-law, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.
In addition to his parents, Robert and Rose Allen, Robert was preceded in death by his grandson, Kyle Robert; and his brother, Randolph ‘Randy’ Allen.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Cindy, and their daughter, Lorianne Hovanec and her husband, Stephen, Swoyersville; his sister, Arlene Paul, Swoyersville; as well as his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a memorial visitation which will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2025, from 9:30 to 10:30 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville. A Memorial Mass will commence at 10:30 AM with the Reverend Father John J. Chmil, his Pastor, officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Air Force at the conclusion of the Memorial Mass.
