Robert E. Isbitski, 88, a resident of Glenmaura Senior Living, Moosic, and formerly of Plains Township, Bear Creek, and West Wyoming, passed into eternal life on Thursday morning, January 26, 2023, at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton.
His loving wife is Helen Gayewski Isbitski. Together, Robert and Helen celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on January 9th.
Born on August 11, 1934, in Plains Township, Robert was one of three children born to the late Peter James Isbitski and Agnes Rompola Isbitski.
Robert was a graduate of the former Plains Memorial High School, and he also attended the Pennsylvania Military College, Chester.
A United States Army veteran, Robert entered the Pennsylvania State Police following his military service. Throughout his 34-year career with the Pennsylvania State Police, he received numerous awards for his public service as a Trooper with Troop P in Wyoming, PA. He was most proud of his grandson Christopher who followed in his footsteps by serving as a Pennsylvania State Trooper. Upon graduation as a trooper, he presented Christopher his badge which he wears today.
A man of great faith, Robert was a lifelong member of SS. Peter and Paul Church, Plains, PA. Active within his church, he served as an usher there for 40 years, and was an active volunteer with the church’s annual bazaar. Additionally, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Assumpta Council 3987, Kingston, and a 4th Degree member of the Our Lady of Czestochowa Assembly 1928, Kingston.
After their retirement, Robert and Helen bought a home in Summerfield, Florida, and for 26 years, they enjoyed spending many months of the year there. Some of his enjoyments were gardening around his home (he even enjoyed pulling the weeds), and playing his saxophone and clarinet.
A strong-willed and determined man, Robert was a survivor of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. After battling the cancer with chemotherapy for 10 years, he was given a stem-cell transplant. As rare as it was to be given such a treatment at age 70, it rendered him cancer free and soon after he and his wife were headed back to Florida.
Family was the center of Robert’s life and he treasured every moment he shared with his loved ones. His wife was truly the love of his life and he, without reservation, always put her on a pedestal and tended to her every need. She never pumped one tank of gas on her own. As a father, he was loving, caring, and supportive, but also never shied away from teaching his children about the hard lessons in life – if only they had all listened to him, they would say later. To his grandchildren, he was the best Pop Pop in the world, and he was blessed to share a strong and fulfilling relationship with each of his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Peter and Agnes Isbitski, Robert was preceded in death by his sister, Florence Hodakowski.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Helen; his four children, Robert Isbitski Jr. and Lori Logic, Bloomsbury, New Jersey; Gary Isbitski and his wife, Mary Ann, Wilkes-Barre; Edward Isbitski, Moscow; and Lisa Isbitski Golden, Moosic; his 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; his brother, Peter Isbitski Jr., Dallas; as well as his numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, fellow Pennsylvania State Police retirees, and dear friends.

Peter and Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains Township, with the Reverend Father John C. Lambert, his Pastor, officiating.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in SS. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Cemetery, Plains Township, where Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Army.
