Rita Monto, 86, formerly of Hemlock Street, Swoyersville, passed into eternal life on Sunday morning, February 07, 2021, at the Partridge-Tippett Nursing Facility of the Wesley Village Campus, Jenkins Township.
Her beloved husband was the late George A. Monto, who passed away on January 23, 2008. Together, George and Rita shared 48 beautiful years of marriage.
Born on February 23, 1934, in Swoyersville, Rita was one of seven children born to the late Michael and Anastasia (Koshinski) Volack.
Raised in Swoyersville, Rita was a graduate of the former Swoyersville High School, Class of 1952.
Prior to her retirement in 1999, Rita was employed for 20 years as an activities aide at the former Valley Crest Nursing Home, Wilkes-Barre. Before that, she was employed for 15 years as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone Company, Wilkes-Barre.
Rita was a faithful Catholic and a lifelong member of the former Saint Mary of Czestochowa Church, Swoyersville. Following the consolidation of her church, she became a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville.
A woman of many enjoyments, Rita especially enjoyed bowling, working crossword puzzles, and a really good glass of beer. Although her presence will be greatly missed, she leaves behind a lasting legacy of being a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
In addition to her parents, Michael and Anastasia Volack, and her husband, George, Rita was preceded in death by her brother, Edward M. Volack; and her sisters, Theresa Volack and Norma Romanowski.
Rita is survived by her son, Mark Monto and his wife, Loriann, Forty Fort; and her daughter, Noelle Ruddy, Deltona, Florida; her grandchildren, Kyle, Laura, Jennifer, Hayley, Ryan, and Natalie; her sisters, Helen Licata, Swoyersville; Martha Berti, Swoyersville; and Leona Romanowski, Sinking Spring; and generations of nieces and nephews.
Due to concerns arising from the pandemic, a private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville, with the Reverend Joseph J. Pisaneschi, her Pastor, officiating.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Swoyersville.
