Rita L. Sordoni, 75, a resident of Shavertown and formerly of Larksville, passed into eternal life, surrounded by her loved ones, on Tuesday morning, July 07, 2026, in the comfort of her home.
Her loving husband is Kenneth T. Dudek with whom Rita would have celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary on October 20th.
Born on June 27, 1951, in Sayre, Rita was one of four children born to the late Raymond N. Sordoni and Rita D. Clark Sordoni.
Raised in Kingston, Rita was a graduate of the former West-Side Central Catholic High School, Class of 1969. Following high school, she furthered her education at College Misericordia, now Misericordia University, where she acquired her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Later, she went on to attain her Master’s Degree in Education of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing from Bloomsburg University.
Prior to her retirement, Rita was employed by the Luzerne Intermediate Unit 18 working as an educator for deaf students, students with hearing impairment, and students with special needs at the former E.L. Meyers High School, Wilkes-Barre. Rita was blessed to keep in touch with many of her former students and was proud to share in their accomplishments.
A faithful Catholic, Rita was a lifelong member of Saint Ignatius Loyola Church, Kingston.
Rita’s family and friends brought immense joy to her life – she loved cooking for them, gifting them items from one of her shopping trips or QVC finds, and, as the “life of the party,” she loved entertaining them at her home. She also found joy in playing tennis, doing aerobics, dancing and working out with her exercise buddies at Candy’s Place (Cancer Wellness Center of NEPA), Forty Fort, and Cawley Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation, Kingston.
Renowned for her infectious laugh, beautiful smile and bubbly personality, Rita’s selflessness and humility were her most admirable qualities. If ever there was someone in need, she was always ready and willing to lend a hand, give words of encouragement, or help without ever asking for recognition or reparation.
Above all, Rita will be best remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother and, most especially, Nana to her grandson, Elijah, who has been the light of her life from the day he was born. She leaves behind a trail of beautiful memories that will be closely held in the hearts of her loved ones until they are reunited with her in Heaven.
In addition to her parents, Raymond and Rita Sordoni, Rita was preceded in death by her brother, Raymond N. Sordoni; and her sister, Martha S. Price.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Kenneth Dudek, and their daughter, HanaRae Slusser and her husband, Bradley, Shavertown; her grandson, Elijah Slusser, Shavertown; her sister, Eleanor Medivitz and her husband, Joseph, Kingston; generations of nieces and nephews whom she thought of more as brothers and sisters and even her own children; as well as a host of extended family members and friends.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the teams at Medical Oncology Associates, Wesley Village, and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their exceptional care and compassion.
In accordance with Rita’s wishes, the viewing and funeral service will be private for her immediate family and close friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Ignatius Loyola Church, Kingston, with her Pastor, Monsignor David L. Tressler, officiating.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Saint Ignatius Loyola Cemetery, Pringle.
Rita’s family entrusted her funeral arrangements to the care of the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort.
