Richard T. Bungardy, 67, of Jenkins Township, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, October 03, 2014, at his home, following a brief battle with cancer.His loving wife is Sandra “Sandy” (Post) Bungardy. Together, Richard and Sandy shared over 14 years together and they celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary on February 14, 2014.Born on November 09, 1946, in Scranton, Richard was the only son of the late Edward and Sadie (Masterson) Bungardy.Raised in Scranton, Richard was a graduate of the former Cathedral High School, Class of 1964.A United States Navy Veteran, Richard honorably served his country for over five years during the Vietnam War. Upon his honorable discharge on April 19, 1971, Richard had attained the rank of Engineman 2nd Class.Prior to his retirement, Richard had been employed for 35 years as a pipefitter for the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, Local 524, Scranton. He also taught welding at Techniglas.An avid hunter and fisherman, Richard was a member of the St. Stephen’s OK Hunting and Fishing Club, North Scranton. He was also a great enthusiast of Harley-Davidson Motorcycles. He and his wife, Sandy, both have Harley’s and he enjoyed the many times they rode together.Richard was extremely talented and could do just about anything. He spent many hours in his garage, building, fixing and tinkering with whatever he could get his hands on.Above all, Richard’s greatest love in life was for his wife, children, step-children and grandchildren. Although his presence will be deeply missed, he leaves behind a legacy that will live on for generations to come.In addition to his parents, Edward and Sadie Bungardy, Richard was preceded in death by his step-son, Eric Michael Bozek.In addition to his wife, Sandy, Richard is survived by his sons, David Bungardy and his companion, Melissa Antal, Dupont, and Christopher Bungardy and his wife, Denise, Olyphant; his step-children, Jacquelyn Walsh and her companion, Anthony, Larksville, and Timothy Bozek, West Pittston; his grandchildren, Brooke Bungardy; Hunter Antal; Michael, Julia and Ethan Walsh; Tyler and Jayden Bozek; his nieces, nephews and friends.The Family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Richard’s family doctor, Dr. Krishnakant Patel, and all the physicians at Intermountain Medical Group, Shavertown; as well as his oncologist, Dr. David Askin, and the staff at Medical Oncology Associates, Kingston, for the exceptional care they all bestowed upon Richard during his time of need.Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend Richard’s funeral service which will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 08, 2014, at 10:00 AM at the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, with the Reverend John Murray, Pastor of Tree of Life Christian Fellowship, Plymouth, officiating.Entombment will follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Park, Dallas, where Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Navy.Family and Friends are invited to call on Tuesday, October 07, 2014, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, and again on Wednesday morning, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM, at the funeral home.For additional information or to send the Bungardy Family an online message of condolence, you may visit the funeral home web-site www.wroblewskifuneralhome.com.The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in Richard’s memory to the Medical Oncology Associates, Prescription Assistance Fund, 382 Pierce Street, Kingston, Pennsylvania, 18704.
