Richard F. Levenoskie, 82, a resident of Swoyersville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, April 30, 2014, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
His devoted wife is Frances Marie (Gorrick) Levenoskie. Richard and Frances Marie fell in love at first sight and were looking forward to celebrating their 59th wedding anniversary on May 30th.
Born on April 17, 1932, in Pittston, Richard was the son of the late Anthony and Julia (Petcavage) Levenoskie.
Richard was a graduate of the former Pittston High School, Class of 1951. Following high school, he went on to further his education at Williamsport Technical Institute, where he studied sign design.
For sixty years, Richard was the owner and operator of R. Levenoskie Signs, located in Swoyersville. Richard was a hard worker who truly loved his profession. Before computer technology, he was one of the first of very few sign makers who had the unique ability to free-hand the lettering on signs.
A man of faith, Richard was a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Parish, Swoyersville.
Richard was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Assumpta Council 3987, Luzerne, where he served as past Grand Knight. He was a 4th Degree Member of the Our Lady of Czestochowa, Assembly 1928, Luzerne.
Richard was a member of Fox Hill Country Club, Exeter, where he enjoyed golfing. He had the distinct honor of hitting a hole-in-one shot at Fox Hill.
An avid sports enthusiast, Richard was a great fan of the New York Yankees, the New York Giants and the Boston Celtics.
Richard possessed great love and commitment for his wife, children, grandchildren and extended family. Richard and Frances Marie always made sure that whenever they did something, they included their whole family. Though his presence will be deeply missed, his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of his loved ones.
In addition to his parents, Anthony and Julia Levenoskie, Richard was preceded in death by his sister, Jane Scargle.
In addition to his wife, Frances Marie, Richard is survived by his children, Cheryl (Kevin) Erdman, South Bend, Indiana; Rick (Amy) Levenoskie, Point Pleasant, New Jersey; Lisa (Matt) Campbell, Harpers Ferry, West Virginia; David (Tammi) Levenoskie, Mountaintop; his grandchildren, Amy, Nicholas and Megan Erdman; Jayden Levenoskie; Jacob, Darby and Kerry Campbell; and Karissa Levenoskie; his step-grandchildren, Dalton and Darian Healy; and Frank Palermo; his cousin, confidant, employee and right-hand man, John Mercincavage; his nieces and nephews.
The Family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the nurses and staff of Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Wilkes-Barre, and Little Flower Manor, Wilkes-Barre, for the compassionate care they bestowed upon Richard during his time of need.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral which will be conducted on Saturday, May 03, 2014, at 12:30 PM from the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 1:00 PM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, with the Reverend Joseph J. Pisaneschi, his Pastor, officiating.
Interment will follow in Saint Joseph’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Duryea.
Family and Friends are invited to call on Friday, May 02, 2014, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, at the funeral home. The Knights of Columbus, Assumpta Council 3987, will recite the Rosary on Friday evening at 7:30 PM.
