Raymond R. Oncay, 89, a lifelong resident of Swoyersville, passed away on September 16, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Raymond was one of four children born to the late Albert Oncay and Helen Evanko Oncay.
Ray graduated from Swoyersville High School in 1953 and played football in their 1952 championship season and the first UNICO all-star game. He went on to play football for the University of Scranton.
He served two years in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany.
Ray retired from the former ACME Markets Warehouse, Forty Fort, as Director of Shipping and Distribution.
He was a member of Holy Family Parish, Luzerne, and enjoyed the outdoors, golf, fishing, and crossword puzzles. He loved listening to classical and instrumental music. He had a passion for woodworking and delighted in gifting family and friends with his amazing creations. He enjoyed decorating for the holidays with his hand-made crafts.
Surviving are his loving wife of 65 years, Mary, and their four children, Eileen Manarello and husband Frank, Nevada; Raymond and wife Karen, Dallas; Melissa Herbst and husband Chris, California; Rebecca Davis and husband, Alan, New York; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. His siblings, Albert, Barbara, and Richard, preceded him in death.
