Pauline (Slipetz) Smolko, 88, a lifelong resident of Swoyersville, passed into eternal life on Tuesday morning, July 05, 2016, at D’Youville Senior Care Center, Lowell, Massachusetts, where she moved over a year ago to be closer to her son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren.
Her beloved husband was the late Joseph J. Smolko, who passed away on May 04, 2013. Together, Joseph and Pauline shared 59 beautiful years of marriage.
Born November 11, 1927, in Swoyersville, Pauline was one of 11 children born of late Paul and Mary (Lazar) Slipetz. She was the last living member of her immediate family.
Pauline was a graduate of the former Swoyerville High School, Class of 1945.
Prior to her retirement, Pauline was employed as a presser in the local garment industry. She held membership with the International Ladies Garment Workers Union.
A faithful Catholic, Pauline was a longtime member of the former Holy Name/Saint Mary’s Parish Community, Swoyersville. Active within in her church, she was a member of the parish’s Confraternity of Christian Mothers, and was instrumental in helping with the parish’s annual bazaar.
Following the consolidation of her parish, Pauline became a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville, where she continued her membership with the Confraternity of Christian Mothers. Pauline also loved attending services at her childhood church, Saint Vladimir’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, Edwardsville.
Family was the center of Pauline’s life and she treasured every moment she had with her loved ones. Her three grandchildren were the light of her life and she held a special bond with each one of them. Pauline and her husband, Joe, enjoyed taking their grandchildren on various trips throughout the years, especially their trips to Disney World and other amusement parks.
Although Pauline’s presence will be deeply missed, she will forever be remembered for her great love and devotion for her family, her bubbly and compassionate personality, and her strong faith and love for God.
In addition to her parents, Paul and Mary Slipetz, and her husband, Joseph, Pauline was preceded in death by her brothers, Richard, Michael and Paul Slipetz; her sisters, Rose Thayer, Lucille Tomko, Mary Dubaskas, Anna Adamchik, Margaret Hyde, Susan Julius, and Helen Baul.
Pauline is survived by her son, Joseph A. Smolko and his wife, Linda of Pelham, New Hampshire; her three grandchildren, Matthew, Nicole and Kathryn Smolko; as well as her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends.
Relatives and Friends are invited to attend Pauline’s viewing which will be held on Sunday, July 10, 2016, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, at the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort.
The funeral will be conducted on Monday, July 11, 2016, at 9:30 AM from the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, with the Reverend Joseph J. Pisaneschi, her Pastor, officiating.
The Confraternity of Christian Mothers of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish will recite the Rosary on Monday morning at 9:15 AM in the church.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Cemetery, Dallas.
