Paul S. Ochman Sr., 87, a resident of Kingston, passed into eternal life unexpectedly on Tuesday evening, December 30, 2025, at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre.
His loving wife is Margaret Ann ‘Marge’ Davis Ochman. Together, Paul and Marge celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary on December 2nd.
Born on December 11, 1938, in Wilkes-Barre, Paul was one of three children born to the late Thomas Ochman and Anna Romanchick Ochman. His brother, Thomas J. Ochman, also preceded him in death.
Raised in Wilkes-Barre, Paul was a graduate of the former Marymount High School, Class of 1956. Following high school, he enlisted with the United States Air Force, honorably serving his country during peacetime.
Paul’s decades spanning career in banking began with Franklin Federal Savings and Loan, Wilkes-Barre, working there for 32 years and rising to the position of Vice President of Mortgage Loans. Eventually gaining employment with Lake Ariel Bank (LA Bank), he worked there as a mortgage loan officer until his retirement in 2002. Following his retirement, he went on to serve as a mortgage consultant for some years for Walling Mortgage Services.
Professionally, Paul served as president of the following organizations: the American Institute of Banking; the Institute of Financial Education; the Mortgage Bankers Association of Northeast Pennsylvania; and the Building Industry Association of Northeast Pennsylvania. Community minded and intrinsically philanthropic, Paul was a member of the Kingston-Forty Fort Lions Club, serving as Past President. He was also actively involved with countless community organizations, most notably the Wyoming Valley Habitat for Humanity; the Economic Development Council Housing Committee; the American Heart Association; ARC of Luzerne County; the Wilkes-Barre Board of Realtors; and the local Girl Scout Council.
A devout Catholic, Paul was a longtime member of Saint Ignatius Loyola Church, Kingston, where he served as a lector for many years.
Paul’s love of banking stemmed back to his childhood when he and his brother, Tom, began collecting coins. This love of coin collecting continued throughout his life and many will remember him for selling coins at the Exeter Flea Market. Renowned for his lighthearted nature, he will also be remembered for concocting nicknames for everyone – better known as his “Ochmanism’s!”
Having a passion for travel, Paul was blessed to drive cross-county with his wife, and they enjoyed countless trips to Atlantic City, Las Vegas and Hilton Head with his wife’s sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Dick. He also enjoyed family trips with his wife and children, even if it was just a long drive somewhere.
In his retirement years, Paul found joy in golfing more often; transporting family and friends to airports, near and far, ensuring their trips began with a safe drive; and watching old movies and TV shows, never missing a re-run of Green Acres.
Paul epitomized the role of family man – he was a loving and devoted husband, father, pop pop, brother and uncle. He treasured family gatherings, especially the annual Christmas Eve dinners “Wigilia,” when he and his beloved sister would recount their family traditions. He leaves this world a much better place and the memory of him will be cherished forevermore in the hearts of his loved ones.
The Ochman family wishes to extend their most sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff from Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, especially Barbara and Joann from the wound care department, for outstanding care they bestowed upon Paul during his time of need.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marge, and their two children, Paul Ochman Jr., West Pittston; and DeeAnn Totino and her husband, Dominic, Bear Creek; three grandsons, Jacob, Noah, and Seth Ochman; his sister, Mary Ann Harman and her husband, Thomas, Pittston; his sister-in-law, Fran Ochman, Shavertown; several nieces and nephews, most especially, John Ochman, Maryann Ochman, Chris Harman, Jenn Collins, and Wendy Cominsky; and many friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Paul’s funeral services which will begin with viewing on Wednesday, January 07, 2026, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort. The Reverend Father Michael J. Kloton, family friend, will be the celebrant. Paul had specific instructions for his funeral service – “no ties for the guys” and “two shots of Jim Beam on ice when you get home.”
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Wilkes-Barre, where Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Air Force.
