Patricia G. Flannery, a resident of Chapin Apartments, Kingston, and formerly of North Loveland Avenue, Kingston, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday evening, April 17, 2017, at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Her loving husband is Joseph M. Flannery. Joseph and Patricia would have celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary on August 21st.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, Patricia was one of five children born to the late John and Mary (Linski) Gonos.
Raised in Kingston, Patricia was a graduate of the former Kingston High School. Following high school, she went on to further her education at Bloomsburg College, and later transferred to Wilkes College from where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education.
Patricia was employed for 34 years as a 3rd and 4th grade teacher for the Wilkes-Barre Area School District. The majority of her teaching career was at Heights Murray Elementary School, later teaching at the former Edward Mackin Elementary School, from where she retired.
A devout Catholic, Patricia was a member of Holy Family Parish, Luzerne. For many years she was a member of Saint Ignatius Loyola Church, Kingston, where she served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist. Her faith in her Lord was immeasurable and she carried out her days by living out his greatest commandment, “To love one another, as I have loved you.”
Patricia was a member of the Ladies of Charity and also held membership with the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees.
One of Patricia’s greatest enjoyments was writing calligraphy, an art at which she excelled greatly.
In addition to her parents, John and Mary Gonos, Patricia was preceded in death by her brothers, Harry and John Gonos; and her great-nephew, John Mason.
In addition to her husband, Joseph, Patricia is survived by her sisters, Dolores Gonos, Wilkes-Barre, and Mary Ann Kotch and her husband, Stephen, Dallas; and her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, a great-great niece and great-great nephews.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral which will be conducted on Friday, April 21, 2017, at 9:30 AM from the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM in Holy Family Roman Catholic Parish, 574 Bennett Street, Luzerne, with the Reverend Joseph P. Elston, her Pastor, officiating.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Hanover Township.
