Patricia A. “Patti” Sheerer Meckalavage, 65, a resident of Duryea, passed unexpectedly into eternal life on Saturday morning, September 12, 2026, in the comfort of her home.

The love of her life and beloved husband of 3 ½ years was the late David Meckalavage who passed away on April 13, 1985.

Born on March 26, 1961, in Scranton, Patti was one of seven children born to the late James Sheerer and Ann Geadrities Sheerer.

Raised in Avoca, Patti was a graduate of Pittston Area High School, Class of 1979. Following high school, she went on to graduate from Moses Taylor Hospital’s School of Medical Laboratory Technicians and later went on to further her education at Marywood University, Scranton, where, in 1994, she acquired her Bachelor of Science Degree in Microbiology.

Patti was currently employed for more than 20 years as a medical technologist for Tenor Health Foundation at both Moses Taylor Hospital and Regional Hospital, Scranton.

Deeply rooted in her Catholic faith, Patti was a devout member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish, Duryea, where she served as a Lector, Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist, and volunteered for many years working the potato pancake stand at its annual bazaar.

Patti had countless enjoyments in life especially happy hour gatherings with her friends; cooking and baking her amazing culinary delights for family and friends; tending to her flower and vegetable gardens; crafting, crocheting and sewing; as well as rooting on her favorite teams, the Philadelphia Eagles and Philadelphia Phillies.

A loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, Godmother, daughter-in-law, and friend, Patti was happiest spending time with her family, especially with her daughter and best friend, Melissa. Although her departure leaves a tremendous void in the hearts of her loved ones, the beautiful legacy of love she leaves behind will be treasured by them until they are reunited with her in Heaven.

In addition to her parents, James and Ann Sheerer, and her husband, David, Patti was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Raymond Meckalavage, and mother-in-law, Victoria Meckalavage, who passed three days earlier on September 09, 2026; her beloved paternal grandmother, Mary Sheerer; and her brother-in-law, Robert Szymanski.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Melissa Meckalavage, Duryea; her six siblings, Lee Ann (Tom) Sabatini, Downingtown; Janet (Tom) Ware, Nicholson; Dr. James (Lisa) Sheerer, Moscow; Timothy Sheerer (Renee Exter), Duryea; Maryann Sheerer, Raleigh, North Carolina; and Christopher Sheerer, Avoca; her nieces and nephews, Angelina, Abbie, Ryan, Matthew, Tommy and Madison; her great-nephew, Cayden; her sister-in-law, Rosanne Meckalavage, Duryea; as well as several cousins, and many dear friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Patti’s services will begin with viewing Monday, September 21, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, continuing there on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at 10:15 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in Nativity of Our Lord Parish, 127 Stephenson St., Duryea, with the Reverend Father Michael M. Bryant, her Pastor, officiating.

The burial service in Mount Olivet Roman Catholic Cemetery, Carverton section of Kingston Township, will be private for her immediate family.
