Michael A. Demko, 70, a resident of Pittston Township, left this life much too soon on Wednesday afternoon, July 08, 2020.
His loving wife is Mary (Lapchak) Demko. Michael and Mary would have celebrated their 26th wedding anniversary on November 10th.
Born on November 08, 1949, in Kingston, Michael was one of four children born to the late John and Catherine (Ivanich) Demko.
Raised in Swoyersville, Michael was a graduate of Wyoming Valley West High School, Class of 1967.
A United States Army veteran, Michael served a 14-month tour in Vietnam at Di An, Cu Chi, Lai Khe and Long Binh. He attained the rank of Specialist E-4 and was awarded 2 Bronze Stars, 2 Army Commendation Medals and the Vietnam Service Medal.
Prior to his retirement, Michael was employed for 33 years as an IT Specialist (Programmer) for the Social Security Administration at its Data Operations Center in Wilkes-Barre.
Michael was a member of the American Legion, Andrew Lawrence Post 644, Swoyersville.
A man of many enjoyments, Michael especially enjoyed rooting on his favorite football teams, the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Seattle Seahawks; fishing and weekly social gatherings with his friends and family; a good political discussion; and trying his luck at the casino. Always the life of the party, he greatly enjoyed entertaining and cooking for everyone, especially during the holidays.
Those who knew Michael knew him to be a fun-loving gentleman who was kind to every person he encountered. He found the greatest joy in making others laugh and he would truly give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. Above all, Michael will be best remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. His presence will be missed beyond measure.
In addition to his parents, John and Catherine Demko, Michael was preceded in death by his infant sister, Mary Demko.
In addition to his wife, Mary, Michael is survived by his two daughters, Stephanie and Olivia Demko, Forty Fort; his brothers, Jack Demko and his wife, Karen, Mountaintop; and George Demko, Swoyersville; as well as his in-laws, cousins, and countless nieces and nephews.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend Michael’s Blessing Service which will be celebrated on Monday, July 13, 2020, at 11:00 AM at the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort. The Reverend John V. Polednak V.E., family friend and Pastor of Nativity of our Lord Parish, Duryea, will officiate.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Mount Olivet Roman Catholic Cemetery, Carverton section of Kingston Township, where Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Army.
Family and Friends are invited to attend Michael’s viewing which will be held on Monday morning, from 9:30 to 11:00 AM, at the funeral home.
