Matilda “Tillie” Popson, 87, a resident of Trucksville, passed into eternal life on Thursday afternoon, October 13, 2016, at her home.
Her loving husband is Michael Popson. Together, Michael and Tillie celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on September 1st.
Born on March 03, 1929, in Swoyersville, Tillie was one of eight children born to the late Edward and Mary (Krull) Mucha.
Tillie was raised in Swoyersville and was a graduate of the former Swoyersville High School, Class of 1947. During high school, she was a member of the school’s cheerleading squad.
For the majority of her life, Tillie was the quintessential homemaker who embodied the role of being a loving and devoted wife and mother. While her children were in grade school at Gate of Heaven in Dallas, Tillie volunteered her time helping in the cafeteria.
A faithful Catholic, Tillie was a longtime member of Saint Therese Roman Catholic Church, Shavertown.
Tillie enjoyed many things in life, especially quilting, gardening, being outdoors in the sunshine, playing poker, and her family’s annual Thanksgiving Gobbler Games at her daughter’s home in Virginia Beach! Tillie also enjoyed cooking for her family and was famous for her ethnic foods, especially her pierogis and halushki.
Tillie never faltered at being a constant source of love and support for husband, children and grandchildren. She took full advantage of every moment she had with her grandchildren. She cherished the time she spent babysitting Lacey and Maura as they were growing up, and the many times she spent visiting Macauley and Lauren at their home in South Carolina. She certainly leaves behind a legacy of love that will live on forever in the hearts of her family.
The Popson Family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Lanning Anselmi, and the nurses and aides from Erwine Home Health and Hospice, for their outstanding care. They also wish to extend a special thank you to Tillie’s neighbor, Molly Schifano, for going above and beyond to help their family when it was needed the most!
In addition to her parents, Edward and Mary Mucha, Tillie was preceded in death by her brothers, Edward and Stephen Mucha; and her sisters, Mary Mucha, Anna Wasko, Helen Strish, and Victoria Allen.
In addition to her husband, Michael, Tillie is survived by her children, Michael Popson and Andrea Molino, Kingston Township; Kevin Popson and his wife, Sean, Isle of Palms, South Carolina; and Sharon Popson, Virginia Beach, Virginia; her grandchildren, Lieutenant Commander Lacey Sizemore and Commander Chris “Half” Nelson; Maura Shaul and her husband, Jesse; Macauley Popson; and Lauren Popson; her brother, Joseph Mucha, Swoyersville; as well as her many nieces and nephews.
