Master Sergeant George David Nenichka, U.S. Air Force, Retired, 83, a lifelong resident of Swoyersville, departed from this world to rejoin the love of his life, Romaine, and our Lord in Heaven, on Wednesday, March 08, 2017, at the Hampton House, Wilkes-Barre, where he was recently a guest.
His beloved wife was the late Romaine “Nan” (Hudanick) Nenichka who passed away on March 30, 2015. Together, Dave and Romaine shared 61 wonderful years of marriage.
Born on June 04, 1933, in Swoyersville, Dave was one of three children born to the late George D. Nenichka Sr. and Anna (Marinko) Nenichka.
A proud and decorated United States Air Force Veteran, Dave honorably served his country for 20 years and was stationed at various Military Bases around the world. He most notably served two tours during the Vietnam War, and was recipient of countless awards and decorations, merits of honor, and accolades. Upon his retirement on October 01, 1971, Dave had attained the rank of Master Sergeant of the United States Air Force.
Following his military service, Dave gained employment at Tobyhanna Army Depot where he worked for many years as an avionics technician, eventually retiring from there.
During his retirement years Dave enjoyed working part-time as a funeral assistant and driver for the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., Forty Fort.
A faithful Catholic, Dave was a lifelong member of the former Holy Trinity Church, Swoyersville. Following the consolidation of his church, he became a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville.
Dave’s purpose in life can be summed up in one simple quote, “Giving in its purest form expects nothing in return!” Throughout his life, Dave would freely give to not only his family and friends, but to complete strangers; and when he gave, he expected nothing in return! He possessed true humility, compassion, and generosity for his fellow man and those qualities will define the greatest part of his legacy.
An avid outdoorsman, Dave greatly enjoyed fishing and hunting. He looked forward to his annual trip to Florida with his son, David, where they would fish for Bass. He also enjoyed going on hunting trips to Canada, Wyoming, Alaska, and Colorado with his brother-in-law, Harold Rinko.
Dave was blessed with a family who loved him as much as he loved them! He and his wife made certain that their family circle was tightly bound with love and devotion for one another. His grandchildren were truly the apples of his eye, and from the day they were born he played an integral part in their lives. His love for his family, his faith in God, his strength, and his patriotism will forever live on in the hearts of his family.“…Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same, but as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.”
In addition to his parents, George and Anna Nenichka, and his wife, Romaine, Dave was preceded in death by his sister, Theresa Karasinski Rymer; and his lifelong best friend, Peter Favata.
Dave leaves behind his loving children, Patricia Brown and her husband, Gary, Mountaintop; Donna Savoca, Swoyersville; and David Nenichka, Swoyersville; his grandchildren, Brooke Casey and her husband, Joseph; Gary Jay Brown II and his wife, Kayla; and Vinny Savoca; his great-grandson, Caleb Casey; his brother, William Nenichka and his wife, Jan, Maryland; his sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen Audi, Dorothy Rinko, and Maureen Kopec; his “Grand-Dog,” Dexter; as well as his numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend their most sincere gratitude to the staff and residents of the Hampton House for not only their loving care and support of Dave, but also for becoming an extension of his family.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral which will be conducted on Monday, March 13, 2017, at 9:30 AM from the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, with the Reverend Joseph J. Pisaneschi, his Pastor, officiating.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Mount Olivet Roman Catholic Cemetery, Carverton, where full Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Air Force and the AMVETS Honor Guard of Greater Pittston.
