Mary Staroska Benny, 100, formerly of Kingston, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, November 19, 2015, at Celtic Healthcare Hospice, Inpatient Unit at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre.
Born on March 29, 1915, in Westland, Pennsylvania, Mary was the daughter of the late Gregory and Justina (Wowk) Staroska.
Mary was employed in the local garment industry until her retirement in 1976. She was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union (I.L.G.W.U.), and was also a member of Holy Family Parish, Luzerne.
Besides her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Michael, who passed away in 1975; her brother, John; her sisters, Evelyn Wasek and Anna Koval; her nephew, George A. Koval Jr.; and her niece, Eunice Paskowski.
Surviving are her daughters, Mary Louise Sahayda and her husband, Charles, West Wyoming; and Macrina DiRoberto and her husband, Martin, Mountain Top; her granddaughters, Joann Monko and her husband, Robert, Orefield; and Lisa Tower and her husband, Paul, Mountain Top; her great-grandchildren, Robert, Emily, and Charles Monko; and Jacob Tower.
Also surviving are her nephew and godson, David Koval and his wife, Calista, Virginia; her nephew, Stephen Wasek, California; her niece, Hana Koval, Philadelphia; and several other nieces, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
It was Mary Benny’s wish, along with her daughters, to especially thank Dr. Richard English for all his medical expertise, personal care, respect, and kindness which he bestowed upon Mary during her years with him. A special note of gratitude to Dr. English’s staff as well. The family also wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Frank O’Brien and his wife, Holly for their special care and kindness to Mary.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral which will be conducted on Monday, November 23, 2015, at 10:00 AM from the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 AM in Holy Family Parish, 574 Bennett Street, Luzerne, with the Reverend Daniel J. Yenkevich, officiating.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in the Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville.
Family and Friends are invited to call on Monday morning, from 8:00 to 10:00 AM, at the funeral home.
