Mary Matushek, 98, a longtime resident of Swoyersville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, August 22, 2017, at the Riverstreet Manor, Wilkes-Barre, where she was a guest.
Her beloved husband was the late Francis G. “Frank” Matushek, who passed away on April 29, 2012. Together, Frank and Mary shared nearly 72 wonderful years of marriage.
Born on October 14, 1918, in Johnstown, Mary was one of nine children born to the late Andrew and Mary (Hliboky) Gula.
Prior to her retirement, Mary was employed as a seamstress in the local garment industry.
Mary was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Kingston.
A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mary’s family was truly the center of her life and she cherished every moment she had with her loved ones. Her family will never forget her delicious baked goods and her expertly crafted crocheted items.
In addition to her parents, Andrew and Mary Gula, and her husband, Frank, Mary was preceded in death by son, Thomas F. Matushek, in 1973; her daughter, Ruth J. Jescavage, in 2010; her brothers, Daniel Gula, John Gula, Andrew Gulla, and George Gulla; and her sister, Anna Rutski.
Mary is survived by her four grandchildren, John Jescavage Jr., Kingston; Janine Jescavage, Marlborough, Massachusetts; Janet Bellows and her husband, Scott, Howell, New Jersey; and Joyce Eichhorn and her husband, James, Plains Township; her four great-grandchildren, Connor, Madison, and Abigail Bellows; and Matthew DiBiase; her sisters, Helen Kaskus, Tunkhannock; Elizabeth Paris, Illinois; and Emma Horensky, Wilkes-Barre; as well as generations of nieces and nephews.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend Mary’s Funeral Service which will be celebrated on Saturday, August 26, 2017, at 1:00 PM at the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, with the Reverend Paul Metzloff, Pastor of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Kingston, officiating.
Interment will follow in Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Cemetery, Swoyersville.
Family and Friends are invited to call on Saturday, August 26, 2017, from 12:00 to 1:00 PM, at the funeral home.
