Martha F. Broda, 91, formerly of Railroad Street, Swoyersville, passed into eternal life on Tuesday morning, March 30, 2021, at the Mercy Center, Dallas, where she was recently a guest.
Her beloved husband was the late John H. Broda Sr., who passed away on February 10, 2009. Together, John and Martha shared 58 wonderful years of marriage.
Born on March 02, 1930, in Pittston, Martha was the daughter of the late Andrew and Frances (Lisinski) Wnuk.
Raised in Pittston, Martha was a graduate of Pittston High School, Class of 1947. Martha was a lifelong learner.
Prior to her retirement, Martha was employed for many years as a teller for the former United Penn Bank, Forty Fort. She served as the financial secretary for the Polish National Alliance, Lodge 1960, Pittston, and also as secretary for District 13 of the Polish National Alliance.
A faithful Catholic, Martha was a longtime member of the former Saint Mary of Czestochowa Church, Swoyersville. Following the consolidation of her church, she became a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville.
Martha had many enjoyments in life, especially cooking, traveling to visit her family, and a good sale at the Bon-Ton. Above all, Martha’s greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with her beloved family, and the love and devotion she had for her loved ones was boundless.
In addition to her parents, Andrew and Frances Wnuk, and her husband, John Sr., Martha was preceded in death by her brothers, Edward, Joseph, and Andrew Wnuk; and her sisters, Stacia Prekel and Helen Edwards.
Martha is survived by her four children, John H. Broda Jr. and his wife, Diane, Exeter; Robert Broda and his wife, Nancy, Raleigh, North Carolina; Karen Farrell, Dunmore; and Michael Broda, Jacksonville, Florida; her seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; her brother, John Wnuk, Mesa, Arizona; her sisters, Marie Zaremba, Summit, New Jersey; Patricia Sralik, Sun City West, Arizona; and Carol Barrette, Dunmore; as well as her numerous nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Martha’s wishes, funeral services will be privately held for her immediate family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville, followed by interment in the Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville.
