Martha A. Lopko, 89, a resident of Saint Luke’s Villa Personal Care Unit, Wilkes-Barre, and a longtime resident of Swoyersville, passed into eternal life on Thursday evening, July 21, 2016, at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born on November 17, 1926, in Swoyersville, Martha was one of nine children born to the late Walter C. and Anna (Kasper) Lopko. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Raised in Swoyersville, Martha was a graduate of the former Swoyersville High School.
Prior to her retirement, Martha was employed for many years as a saleswoman for The Hub Department Store, formerly located in Wilkes-Barre.
Martha was a faithful and devout Catholic. She was lifelong member of the former Saint Mary of Czestochowa Church, Swoyersville, where she held membership with the church’s Sacred Heart Society and choir.
Following the consolidation of her church, Martha became a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Parish, Swoyersville.
In addition to her parents, Walter and Anna Lopko, Martha was preceded in death by her brothers, Walter Lopko and John Lopko; her sisters, Helen Lopko, Bridget Lopko, Estelle Arthur, Anna Wilpizeski, Lottie Mackenzie, and Flora Ohannes.
Martha is survived by her loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and her dear friends.
Relatives and Friends are invited to attend Martha’s viewing which will be held on Monday, July 25, 2016, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, at the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort.
An additional viewing will be held on Tuesday morning, July 26, 2016, from 9:30 to 10:00 AM at Saint Luke’s Villa, 80 East Northampton Street, Wilkes-Barre. Due to construction, please proceed to the Temporary Chapel located on the 3rd Floor.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, with Monsignor Vincent J. Grimalia, Chaplain of Saint Luke’s Villa, officiating.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Swoyersville.
