Marie Ann Pesta, 88, a resident of Swoyersville, passed away on Thursday evening, November 19, 2020, from the effects of the Covid-19 virus, at the Partridge-Tippett Nursing Facility of the Wesley Village Campus, Jenkins Township, where she was a guest for a short while.
Her beloved husband was the late Leonard Pesta, who passed away on February 23, 2001. Leonard and Marie were married on July 25, 1953, sharing 47 beautiful years of marriage.
Born on August 07, 1932, in Wyoming, Marie was one of two daughters born to the late Russell and Agnes Ann (Urban) Rumage.
Raised in Wyoming, Marie was a graduate of the former Saint John’s High School, Pittston.
A homemaker most of her life, Marie lovingly tended to the daily needs of her husband and children.
Marie was a woman of great faith, and was a longtime member of the former Saint Mary of Czestochowa Church, Swoyersville.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Marie loved attending both her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events over the years. She was also great fan of many professional teams, and she was very happy to know that the Pittsburgh Steelers are 9-0, and will be very annoyed in Heaven if they blow it now.
Marie lived large and loved well! Living through the Great Depression, World War II, the Korean War, the Cold War, etc., she made the best of this life without one complaint along the way, yet she lived long enough to see a generation where youngsters complain about the simplest of problems, like dropping their cell phones.
Family was the center of Marie’s life and she cherished every moment she had with her loved ones, most especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In her final days, Marie spoke frequently of her husband being there with her, and with that knowledge, we know she did not cross that final passage alone. We all loved her and will miss her terribly, but in those times we miss her most, we will be comforted by the wonderful memories we have of her.
Marie is survived by her elder sister, Ernestine Schrank; her daughter, Joyce Pesta Conyngham and her husband, Don, and their children, Heather, Alexander, and Jesse Conyngham, and Colleen Mazin; her elder son, Leonard J. Pesta and his wife, Karen, and their children, Jason and Lennette Pesta; her youngest son, Matthew Pesta and his wife, Caprice, and their children Luke and Jared Pesta. Marie is also survived by her twelve great-grandchildren, thereby almost attaining the status of qualifying for her own family zip code; as well as her nieces and nephews.
A private family viewing and funeral service will be held. The Reverend Joseph J. Pisaneschi, Pastor of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville, will celebrate a Blessing Service.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Swoyersville.
Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort.

Marie’s “favorite people” were cats and dogs…Don’t worry, she still managed to love the rest of you. Because of her love for animals, the family kindly asks that, in lieu of floral tributes, you consider giving a donation in Marie’s memory to the SPCA of Luzerne County, 524 East Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702, an organization she frequently supported.
