Margaret “Marge” Pointek, 91, a resident of Swoyersville, passed into eternal life on Thursday morning, October 13, 2016, at the Kingston Health Care Center, where she was recently a guest.
Born on May 18, 1925, in Swoyersville, Marge was the daughter of the late Albert W. Pointek and Anna M. (Chorba) Pointek.
Following high school, Marge went on to attend the University of Pittsburgh where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. She later went on to attend Johns Hopkins University, where she received her Master’s Degree in Public Health.
Marge worked for many years with the World Health Organization, and was humbled to serve in Vietnam as a contracted nurse during the Vietnam War, caring for Soldiers in all uniforms. She also served as a nurse in St. Thomas, Jordan, Egypt, and various other Middle Eastern countries. She was also a Professor of Nursing at Duquesne University, Pittsburgh. She eventually returned home to Swoyersville, and became employed as a nursing supervisor for the Department of Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre, from where she retired.
A devout Catholic, Marge was a lifelong member of the former Holy Trinity Church, Swoyersville, where she held membership with its Confraternity of Christian Mothers. Following the consolidation of her church, she became a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville.
Marge held membership with the Oxford Club thru Johns Hopkins University, and the Greater Pittston Area Chapter No. 1723 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees (N.A.R.F.E), serving its chaplain for some time.
In addition to her parents, Albert and Anna Pointek, Marge was preceded in death by her only brother, Albert J. Pointek, and her sister-in-law, Patricia Ann (George) Pointek.
Marge is survived by her nephew, John Pointek, Binghamton, New York; her niece, Mary Ann Monforte and her husband, Ralph, Syracuse, New York; her great nieces and nephews, Julia, Matthew and his wife, Dana, Nate, Andrew, and Lauren.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated on Friday, October 21, 2016, at 11:00 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, with the Reverend Joseph J. Pisaneschi, her Pastor, officiating.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Cemetery, Swoyersville.
At Marge’s request, the viewing will be private for her immediate family. The Confraternity of Christian Mothers of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish will recite the Rosary on Friday morning at 10:30 AM in the church.
