Margaret Joan Salata, affectionately known as Aunt Margie or Margie, passed away peacefully on Sunday afternoon, November 03, 2024. Ten days earlier on October 24, 2024, she celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by family and friends.
Born in Swoyersville, Margie was one of six children born to the late John D. Salata and Mary Reto Salata.
A 1942 graduate of the former Swoyersville High School, Margie remained a lifelong resident of Swoyersville until moving to Maple Ridge Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Kingston, where she resided the past six years.
Prior to her retirement, Margie was employed as a seamstress for the former United Pants Factory, Swoyersville.
Margie was a faithful member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Holy Trinity Church, Swoyersville, where she was a past member of its former Altar and Rosary Society, and was an active volunteer with many of the church fundraisers and programs. In her younger years, she was active in bowling leagues, winning several trophies as a Champion Bowler.
An expert knitter, Aunt Margie made beautiful afghans, sweaters, hats, scarves, baby blankets and much more, donating most of what she made. She had a great sense of humor; was an eager storyteller; and when together with her loved ones she enjoyed informing them of their interesting and varied family history and Slovak heritage.
In addition to her parents, Margie was preceded in death by her three brothers, Joseph, Albert, and Robert; and her two sisters, Elizabeth Emershaw and Mary Macey Kovach.
Although she never married, Margie was a devoted aunt to her many nieces and nephews, and cherished all of her family and friends. She will be remembered as a wonderful and generous person and a very special Aunt. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a memorial visitation on Saturday, December 28, 2024, from 9:30 to 10:30 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, where a Memorial Mass will commence at 10:30 AM. The Reverend Father John J. Chmil, her Pastor, will officiate.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Cemetery, Swoyersville.
