Marcella “Marcy” Evasic Marlin, 93, a resident of the Meadows Manor, Dallas, and formerly of Springfield, Pennsylvania passed into eternal life on Tuesday morning, August 09, 2022, at her residence.
Her beloved husband was the late Dr. John T. “Jack” Marlin. After a long friendship, Jack and Marcy were united in marriage in 1967, sharing nearly 15 beautiful years of marriage, until his untimely death on March 26, 1981. After Jack’s passing, she maintained their residence on Rocklyn Road in Springfield until 1999 when she returned to Northeastern Pennsylvania to be closer to her family. She resided for many years at The Pines at the Mercy Center, Dallas, until moving to Meadows Manor.
Born on November 10, 1928, in Luzerne, Marcella was one of seven children born to the late Peter Evasic and Helen Beris Evasic.
Raised in Luzerne, Marcella was a graduate of the former Luzerne High School, Class of 1946. She went on to further her education at Bloomsburg State Teachers College, now Bloomsburg University, where she attained her Bachelors of Science Degree in Education in 1950. Later, she went on to attain her Master’s Degree in Education from Villanova University.
Marcy started her career as an elementary school teacher in Mount Holly, New Jersey, where she taught for a few years. She then became employed by the Ridley School District in Delaware County, teaching at Amosland Elementary School until her retirement in 1982. There she fostered many lifelong friendships with not only her fellow teachers but also with her students, maintaining a collection of all her students class photos from the time she started teaching.
A faithful Catholic, Marcy was a member of Gate of Heaven Church, Dallas. Throughout her years in Springfield, she was a devout member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, where, following her retirement, she taught Sunday School for 15 years.
In her younger years, Marcy enjoyed extensive travel, and experienced life to the fullest despite some major health issues. She traveled throughout the United States and Canada, enjoying beaches, horseback riding, ski lifts in the Canadian Rockies, and the art of fine dining. Many of her trips were taken in her 1950’s Pink Cadillac, and traveled until her legs would no longer let her enjoy this pastime.
Marcy’s love for her family was boundless – she truly was devoted sister and aunt! Known for her smile and her warm and welcoming personality, Marcy was also never afraid to give constructive criticism or to let others know her feelings.
Marcy will be deeply missed by her family and her many friends whom she had positively impacted during her 93 years of her life. Always a fighter, she overcame the many health obstacles life hurled her way. Her fighting spirit persisted until God came to relieve her of her burdens and finally give her the comfort and peace she had been missing over the last few years.
Marcy’s family wishes to extend their gratitude to Arthur Mitchell, MD for always being there when Marcy needed his care, and for helping her bounce back after many hospital visits. They also wish to extend their sincerest gratitude to Marcy’s dear friends, Beverly Crispell and Kathy Kidd, for always being there to lend a helping hand and for the compassionate care they bestowed upon Marcy during the last decade of her life.
In addition to her parents, Peter and Helen Evasic, and her husband, Jack, Marcella was preceded in death by her loving siblings, John Evasic, Steven Evasic, and Margaret Whitman.
Marcella is survived by her three loving sisters, Matilda Proch, Laurys Station; Bernadine M. Ridilla, Luzerne; and Dorothy Winckoski, Hunlock Creek; her nephew and caregiver, Dr. Joseph J. Ridilla, Shavertown; as well as her nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
