Kathleen M. “Kathy” Richards, 85, a resident of Laflin, passed quietly on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, in the comfort of her home.
She was born on August 26, 1940, in New York City to the late Bernard Masterson and the late Matilda G. Dunn Masterson.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas J. “Digsy” Richards. Kathy and Tom were blessed to share 56 years of marriage until his passing on December 21, 2023. Her brother, Bernard Masterson, Michigan, also preceded her in death.
Raised in Wilkes-Barre, Kathy was a graduate of the former E. L. Meyers High School. Prior to her marriage, she was employed by RCA and Mercy Hospital. After she raised her family, she worked at the Medicine Shoppe and cared for her aging mother until her passing in 1997.
As faithful Catholics, Kathy and Tom were lifelong members of St. Therese Church of South Wilkes-Barre and active in the choir and parish events until its closing. After moving from Elder Street in Wilkes-Barre, to Laflin, they joined the Parish of St. Maria Goretti.
Kathy enjoyed traveling with her husband, family and friends. She will be lovingly remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She cherished the time spent with her family and enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow and sharing in their milestones.
She is survived by her daughter, Ann M. Gubitose and her husband, Glen, Laflin; son, Thomas J. Richards, Jr. and his wife, Kathleen, Mountain Top; grandson, Kyle Richards; granddaughter, Sarah Richards; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at 10:00 AM in St. Maria Goretti Church, 42 Redwood Drive, Laflin, with the Reverend Father Alex Roche, officiating. Friends may call from 9:00 AM until the time of the service, at the church.
The Parish Rosary Guild of St. Maria Goretti Church will recite the Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet on Tuesday morning at 9:30 AM, in the church.
Private interment will be held at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Hanover Township, at the convenience of the family.
