Joseph R. Swaboski, 90, formerly of Swoyersville and West Wyoming, passed peacefully into eternal life on Wednesday evening, April 15, 2026, at the Riverstreet Manor, Wilkes-Barre, where he was a guest for the past year.
His beloved wife of 41 years was the late Patricia M. Milius Swaboski who passed away on October 02, 2001.
Born on April 30, 1935, in Swoyersville, Joseph was one of three children born to the late Frank Swaboski and Catherine Hospodar Swaboski.
Raised in Swoyersville, Joseph was a graduate of the former Swoyersville High School, Class of 1954.
Following high school, Joseph enlisted with the United States Marine Corps Reserve and upon his honorable discharge on December 11, 1961, he attained the rank of Lance Corporal.
Joseph began his career as a truck driver with the Teamsters Union for the former Nelson Furniture Manufacturing, Edwardsville, and later went on to be employed by the Dallas Area Municipal Authority working in its recycling plant until his retirement. He will be best remembered for his part-time employment with the former Victory Pig Pizza, Wyoming, where he worked 3 nights every week for over 50 years. Starting there as a “curb boy,” and eventually worked his way up to being a bartender and pizza maker, he was a staple at the legendary restaurant.
A man of faith, Joseph was a past lifelong member of the former Saint Mary of Czestochowa Church, Swoyersville, and following its closure, he became a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville.
Having many enjoyments in life, Joseph especially enjoyed hunting in his younger years and taking drives around the area. He had a keen interest in American Indian culture and loved learning all he could about the different tribes. Above all, his greatest love in life was spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Frank and Catherine, and his wife, Patricia, Joseph was preceded in death by his brother, Frank Swaboski Jr. and his wife, Mary; his sister-in-law, Lorraine Talerico and her husband, Francis; and brothers-in-law, Ronald Milius and John Milius.
Left to cherish his memory are his brother, Peter Swaboski, Dallas; his sisters-in-law, Elizabeth “Liz” Milius, Swoyersville, and Donna Milius, Mechanicsburg; as well as generations of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Joseph’s services which will begin with viewing on Friday, April 24, 2026, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, with the Reverend Father John J. Chmil, his Pastor, officiating.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Swoyersville, where Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Marine Corps.
