Joseph J. Yagojinski, best known as “Yagi” or “Jay”, 91, a lifelong resident of Swoyersville, passed away peacefully with his wife, Alberta, at his side, on Thursday evening, September 03, 2015, at ManorCare Health and Rehabilitation Center, Kingston, where he had recently been a guest.
His loving wife is Alberta (Kosko) Yagojinski. Together, Yagi and Alberta shared 65 wonderful years of marriage.
Born on April 05, 1924, in Swoyersville, Joseph was the son of the late George and Victoria (Dzugan) Yagojinski.
A United States Navy Veteran, Jay honorably served his country during both World War II and the Korean War.
Prior to his retirement, Jay was employed for many years as a contractor for Somerville Construction Company.
A faithful Catholic, Yagi was a longtime member of Holy Family Roman Catholic Parish, Luzerne.
Yagi was a life member of the American Legion, Andrew Lawrence Post 644, Swoyersville. He was an outstanding cook, and many will remember him spending many hours catering at the Swoyersville American Legion. He also greatly enjoyed hunting and fishing.
In addition to his parents, George and Victoria Yagojinski, Joseph was preceded in death by his brothers, George and Frank Yagojinski; and his sisters, Mary Kislow and Sophie Burke.
In addition to his wife, Alberta, Joseph is survived by his brother, John Jagozinski; his sisters, Victoria Kopec and Helen Bobroski; and his numerous nieces and nephews.
The Family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the nurses and staff of both ManorCare Health and Rehabilitation Center, and Celtic Healthcare Hospice, for the kind and compassionate care they bestowed upon Joseph during his time of need.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 09, 2015, at 10:00 AM in Holy Family Parish, 574 Bennett Street, Luzerne, with the Reverend Daniel J. Yenkevich, officiating.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Saint John’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Courtdale.
In keeping with Yagi’s wishes, the viewing will private for his immediate family members.
