John W. Stier, 72, a resident of Swoyersville, passed away early Wednesday morning, January 14, 2015, at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. His loving wife is Mary (Yezefski) Stier. Together, John and Mary celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary on February 14th. Born on December 13, 1942, in Wilkes-Barre, John was the son of the late Walter H. Stier and Mary “Toppsie” (McGuiness) Stier. Raised in Askam, John was a graduate of Hanover High School, Class of 1960. A United States Army veteran, John honorably serviced his country for three years. Upon his honorable discharge on September 23, 1964, he attained the rank of Specialist 4th Class. Prior to his retirement in 2006, John was employed for over 30 years by Diamond Manufacturing Company, Wyoming. John was a member of Saint Therese Church, Shavertown. He was also a member of the International Aerospace and Machinists Union. John enjoyed many things in life, especially, fishing, woodworking, gardening, spending time with his pets, and most notably, being the ultimate prankster and practical joker! Above all, John’s greatest love in life was for his family and he treasured every moment he had with his loved ones. Although his presence will be deeply missed, his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends. In addition to his parents, Walter and Mary Stier, John was preceded in death by his brothers, Barry and Richard Stier. In addition to his wife, Mary, John is survived by his children, John Stier, Jr. and his wife, Regina, Swoyersville; Cynthia Baker and her husband, John, Swoyersville; Joseph Stier and his wife, Tammy, Waxahachie, Texas; and David Stier and his wife, Julie, Layton, Utah; his grandchildren, Heather, Andrew, Kerrilynn, Jessica, John Jr., Joseph Jr., Samantha, Alexander, Justin, Tyler and Ashley; his great-grandchildren, Ryder and Chase; his cousin, Jenny Eder, Askam; and his nieces, nephews and friends. Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend a Blessing Service which will be celebrated on Friday, January 16, 2015, at 6:00 PM at the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, with the Reverend James J. Paisley, Pastor of Saint Therese Church, Shavertown, officiating. Family and Friends are invited to call on Friday, January 16, 2015, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, at the funeral home.
