John W. Powell, 77, a resident of Swoyersville, passed into eternal life peacefully on Sunday evening, June 29, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loved ones.
His loving wife is Karin Beky Powell with whom John celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on September 13, 2024.
Born on November 17, 1947, in Wilkes-Barre, John was one of two sons born to the late John W. Powell and Helen Karafonda Powell.
Raised in Plymouth, John was a graduate of the former Plymouth High School, Class of 1965. Following high school, he went on to further his education at Wilkes College, now Wilkes University, where he acquired his Bachelor of Art Degree in Business.
John worked for many years as a licensed insurance agent for Prudential Life Insurance, later working for various automobile dealers until his retirement.
A man of faith, John was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Plymouth.
John was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in hunting and fishing. He was also a great football, baseball and NASCAR enthusiast with his favorite teams being the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the Green Bay Packers, and the Los Angels Dodgers.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the nurses from Allied Services Hospice for the compassionate care they bestowed upon John during his time of need.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Karin, and their three sons, John Powell and his companion, Lynn Havens, Swoyersville; David Powell and his wife, Amanda, Harrisburg, North Carolina; and Brian Powell and his companion, Tammy Morris, Nanticoke; three grandchildren, Alexander Powell, Morgan Powell, and Kayla Powell; and his brother, Daniel Powell, Wyalusing.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend John’s viewing which will be held on Tuesday, July 08, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, where his funeral service will be celebrated at 11:00 AM. The Reverend Peter Haenftling, Pastor of Saint Matthew’s Slovak Evangelical Lutheran Church, Wilkes-Barre, will be the celebrant.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in the Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville.
