John Stephen Bankus, 86, a resident of Forty Fort, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, August 04, 2015, at his home.
His beloved wife is Nancy L. (Burgess) Bankus. John and Nancy shared 60 happy years together.
Born on October 23, 1928, in Wilkes-Barre, John was the son of the late Andrew and Mary (Hertely) Bankus.
Raised in Wilkes-Barre, John was a graduate of E.L. Meyers High School, Class of 1946.
A United States Air Force Veteran, John honorably served his country as an Airman 1st Class during the Korean Conflict.
Prior to his retirement, John was employed by the Acme Bakery, Wilkes-Barre.
John was a longtime member of the former Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Swoyersville. Following the consolidation of his church, he became a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Parish, Swoyersville.
John was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and Penn State. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially summers at Lake Carey and Promised Land State Park.
In addition to his parents, Andrew and Mary Bankus, John was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph, Andrew and Stephen Bankus; and his sister, Mary Bankus.
In addition to his wife, Nancy, John is survived by his children, Donna Moser and her husband, Thomas, Tallahassee, Florida; and John F. Bankus and his wife, Judith, Wyoming; his grandchildren, Dr. Jennifer Moser and Matthew Moser, both of Florida; and John G. Bankus, Wyoming; his great-granddaughter, Jovie Dae Moser; his brother, Frank Bankus, Sykesville, Maryland; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, David and Florence Burgess, Harding; and Joseph and Terri (Theresa) Burgess, West Wyoming; and his several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral which will be conducted on Saturday, August 08, 2015, at 9:30 AM from the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, with the Reverend Joseph J. Pisaneschi, his Pastor, officiating.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in the Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville, where Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Air Force.
