John R. “Dick” Pesavento, 90, a resident of Franklin Township, and former longtime resident of Lake Carey, passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at his home.
His loving wife is Dorothy B. (Krostag) Pesavento. Together, Dick and Dorothy celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on July 4th.
Born on September 26, 1925, in Wilkes-Barre, Dick was the son of the late Adam C. Pesavento and Catherine H. (Stivers) Pesavento.
Raised in Wilkes-Barre, Dick was a graduate of E.L. Meyers High School, Class of 1944.
A United States Army veteran, Dick honorably served his country as a Private First Class with the Military Police during World War II. He visited 46 states and 9 countries escorting prisoners of war, and was decorated with the Good Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
Prior to his retirement, Dick was employed as an electrician and foreman with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 163, of which he was a member for 68 years.
A faithful Catholic, Dick was a member of Saint Frances X. Cabrini Church, Carverton. He was a past member of Nativity B.V.M. Church, Tunkhannock, where he was actively involved with many of the church’s fundraisers. Dick would always be there to lend a helping hand with making pierogie’s, and could be best remembered by his famous clam chowder, which he made for countless church functions.
Dick was also an active member of the Northmoreland Township (Franklin) Volunteer Fire Company.
A lover of the outdoors, Dick enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing. When he and his family lived on Lake Carey, Dick spent many days out on the water fishing.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Wilkes Barre VA Medical Center, most especially, Neil Heffernan, Ivona Kocon, Donna Patts and Denise Newcomb, for the excellent, dedicated and compassionate care they bestowed upon John during his time of need.
In addition to his parents, Adam and Catherine Pesavento, Dick was preceded in death by his brother, Robert A. Pesavento; and his sisters, Dolores Cronauer and Eleanor Spatz.
In addition to his wife, Dorothy, Dick is survived by his son, Michael Pesavento, Florida; his daughter, Joann Pesavento and her husband, Scott Dudick, Franklin Township; his daughter-in-law, Ina Lynn Pesavento, Carbondale; his grandchildren, Dominick Pesavento, Justine Pesavento-Knight, and Johnna Pesavento-Dudick; his great-grandson, Brody Knight; as well as his many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend Dick’s Memorial Mass which will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 27, 2016, at 10:00 AM in Saint Frances X. Cabrini Church, 585 Mount Olivet Road, Carverton, with the Reverend James J. Paisley, his Pastor, officiating.
