John M. Brown Jr., 72, a resident of Forty Fort, entered into eternal life, surrounded by his loved ones, on Tuesday evening, September 24, 2024, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.

His loving wife is Gertrude Eddy Brown. John and Gertrude were looking forward to celebrating their 52^nd wedding anniversary on October 28^th.

Born on September 28, 1951, in Kingston, John was one of two sons born to the late John M. Brown Sr. and Loretta A. Davis Brown.

Raised in Forty Fort, John was a 1970 graduate of West Side Vocational/Technical School, Pringle, where he was a member of its football and baseball teams; helped to write the school’s alma mater; and was instrumental in the designing of the school cog.

Prior to his retirement, John was employed by the former HPG International, now i2M, Mountain Top. In his earlier years, he worked as a contractor for the former Weiss Construction, Kingston, and as a machine repairman for the former Forty Fort Blouse, Forty Fort, and the former Atwater Throwing Company, Plymouth and Wilkes-Barre.

A member of the Georgetown Conservation Club, Wilkes-Barre Township, John was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, tying flies, making bullets, and camping with his beloved family. In his youth, he was active in the Boy Scouts and, more recently, helped his granddaughter, Alexis, in the Girl Scouts.

Throughout his life, John was very crafty – from woodworking to flower arranging, John could do anything he put his mind to. He was skilled at sewing, and was an expert baker and outstanding cook.

Selfless and hardworking, John never hesitated to extend his helpful hand to a neighbor, friend, or stranger. He was a quintessential family man who would move heaven and earth to ensure his loved ones were taken care of – the love and devotion he had for his family will be his lasting legacy.

In addition to his parents, John and Loretta, John was most recently preceded in death by his beloved aunt, Shirley Davis Hafner, who passed away on September 01, 2024.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Gertrude, and their three daughters, Justina Brown, Santa Monica, California; Loretta Brown, Forty Fort; and Heather Brown, Swoyersville; seven grandchildren, Laura, Ashley, Amber, Autumn, Austin, Aydn, and Alexis; his brother, Robert W. Brown and his wife, Luana, Harrisburg; as well as his nieces and nephews.

Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral which will be conducted on Thursday, October 03, 2024, at 10:00 AM, from the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, with the Reverend Father Joseph J. Pisaneschi, officiating.

Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in the Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville.

Family and friends are invited to attend John’s viewing which will be held on Wednesday, October 02, 2024, from 5 to 7:30 PM, at the funeral home.
