John J. Selena Jr., 86, a resident of Wyoming, passed peacefully into eternal life on Saturday morning, January 27, 2024, at Allied Services Hospice Center, Wilkes-Barre.
His loving wife is Rita M. Zima Selena. Together, John and Rita celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on July 09, 2023.
Born on February 22, 1937, in Pittston, John was one of two children born to the late John J. Selena and Helen C. Polacky Selena.
Raised in Wyoming, John was a graduate of the former Wyoming Memorial High School, Class of 1954.
A United States Army veteran, John served his country for three years during peacetime, and upon his honorable discharge, he attained the rank of Specialist 4th Class.
Prior to his retirement, John was employed for many years as a regional service technician for the 3M Company, Philadelphia. Following his retirement, he worked as a salesman for the former Radio Shack, Midway Shopping Center, Wyoming, as well as operating a mobile concession business with his wife at local fairs and events for some years.
A man of strong faith, John was a lifelong member of the former Saint Joseph’s Church, Wyoming, and following its closing, he became a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville.
John and Rita shared a mutual love for traveling, visiting various destinations across the world, as well as traveling and camping across the United States in their RV.
A man of many interests, John was a model train enthusiast who amassed a sizable collection of model trains and had his own railway display in his home. Taking up scroll saw woodworking following the tragic death of his son, Joseph, in a house fire at Bloomsburg University, he created countless works of art for his family and friends, as well as selling many of his creations at craft shows. He also had a gift for playing the violin, and a passion for reading.
John will be remembered for the abounding love and unending devotion he had for his wife, children, and grandchildren – they were the center of his life. He leaves behind a legacy that will be forever treasured by his loved ones.
In addition to his parents, John and Helen Selena, John was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Selena, who passed away on October 21, 1994.
