John J. Sabadish, 89, a resident of Swoyersville, passed into eternal life on Saturday morning, April 22, 2017, at Sunrise Senior Living, Exton, where he was recently a guest.
His loving wife is Rita M. (Kurovsky) Sabadish. Together, John and Rita celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on August 26, 2016.
Born on November 13, 1927, in Wilkes-Barre, John was the son of the late John and Margaret (Sabol) Sabadish.
Raised in Swoyersville, John received his early education at Holy Trinity Grade School and Swoyersville High School.
A United States Army veteran, John honorably served his country during World War II, and was stationed primarily in Japan throughout his years of service.
An upholsterer by trade, John was first employed by the former Nelson Manufacturing, Wyoming. He eventually went on to receive his professional certification as a vocational-technical instructor, teaching upholstery at West Side Vo-Tech for many years, retiring from there.
John was a faithful Catholic and a lifelong member of the former Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Swoyersville, where he was a past member of the church Choir and Holy Name Society. He served his church as a Lector, an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist, and as an Acolyte for funerals. He was also actively involved with the church’s annual bazaar, and assisted with many other functions at the church. Following the consolidation, John became a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville.
In addition to his parents, John and Margaret Sabadish, John was preceded in death by his only sister, Margaret Nenichka.
In addition to his wife, Rita, John is survived by his five children, Mary Ann Spitale and her husband, Tony, West Wyoming; Gloria Phillips and her husband, Frank, Hanover Township; John A. Sabadish and his wife, Marie, Pikeville, North Carolina; Joseph Sabadish and his wife, Marianne, St. Petersburg, Florida; and Michael Sabadish and his wife, Kimberly, Chester Springs.
John is also survived by his fourteen grandchildren, Anna (Michael) Kenny, John (Amber) Spitale, Michael (Nadia) Spitale, Emily Phillips, Elizabeth (Chad) Uecker, Frank Phillips, Kathryn Phillips, John (Brandi) Sabadish, Rita (Ross) Sabadish, Alina (Jim) Sabadish, Joseph Sabadish, Paul Sabadish, Noah Sabadish, and Zoe Sabadish; as well as his six great-grandchildren, his five nephews, and one niece.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral which will be conducted on Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at 9:30 AM from the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated by John and Rita’s nephew, the Reverend Andrew Kurovsky, Assistant Pastor of Saint Ignatius Loyola Church, Kingston.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Saint Anthony’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Courtdale.
