John J. Miller Jr., 77, a longtime resident of Swoyersville, passed into eternal life early Sunday morning, February 11, 2024, at Highland Manor Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Exeter.
Born on July 04, 1946, in Kearny, New Jersey, John was one of two children born to the late John J. Miller Sr. and Irene Bednar Miller.
Raised in Swoyersville, John was a graduate of the former Swoyersville High School, Class of 1964.
A United States Army veteran, John honorably served his country during the Vietnam War.
John began his career working for Procter and Gamble, Mehoopany, eventually leaving there in 1982 to establish his own environmental safety and consulting business, J. Miller and Sons Environmental, operating his business until 2021. He was proud of all he achieved in owning and operating his own business. He loved his job, especially the travel aspect of it, which allowed him to create lasting bonds with many.
John was a past member of the former Holy Name of Jesus Church, Swoyersville, and following its closing, he became a member of Holy Family Parish, Luzerne.
Proud of his hometown of Swoyersville, John loved the years he coached and served on the Board of Directors for the Swoyersville Sailors mini football team.
Throughout his life, John had a passion for creating and using his trade skills. He built half of his home with his own hands, installed his own pool, and meticulously cared for his yard. All while doing this, he would take breaks to spend time with his deeply adored cats.
Above all else, family and friends always came first in John’s life. He was always present for his daughter, Jennifer; son-in-law, Paul; and grandchildren, Mia, Alivia, Isabella, and Ben. He had an unwavering support for all of them, most especially his grandchildren – never missing any of their events and reveling in each of their accomplishments.
Those who knew John will remember his love of cars, beach vacations with his family, and sitting by his pool. His loved ones will continue to carry on his legacy of loving and supporting family and friends, keeping a strong work ethic, and believing in everyone.
In addition to his parents, John Sr. and Irene, John was preceded in death by his former wife, mother of his children, and friend, Karen Janov Fedor.
Left to cherish John’s memory are his daughter, Jennifer Serkosky and her husband, Paul, Exeter; his sons, Jeff Miller, Forty Fort, and Jason Miller, Lehman Township; his four grandchildren, Mia, Alivia, Isabella, and Benjamin Serkosky; his sister, Judith Lencoski, Tunkhannock; as well as his nieces, nephews, and many friends.
