John J. Dushanko Sr., 79, a resident of Swoyersville, passed into eternal life on Wednesday evening, August 07, 2024, in the comfort of his home.
His loving wife is Barbara Kolojejchick Dushanko. Together, John and Barbara shared 55 years of marriage.
Born on August 12, 1944, in Harleigh, John was one of eight children born to the late Stephen Dushanko and Mary Moran Dushanko.
Raised in Harleigh, John was a graduate of Hazle Township High School, Class of 1962. He went on to further his education at Kings College, Wilkes-Barre, before going on to attend the former Nesbitt Hospital School of Nursing, where he received his degree to practice as a registered nurse, and then went on to attend the Allentown General Hospital School of Anesthesia, where he received his degree to practice as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.
John was employed for over 40 years as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, working for several hospitals in Luzerne County, lastly for the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, from where he retired.
John was a longtime member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Holy Trinity Church, Swoyersville.
An ardent supporter of youth sports, especially baseball, John coached little league baseball, teener league baseball and legion baseball. He was a diehard lifelong fan of the New York Yankees.
In addition to his parents, Stephen and Mary, John was preceded in death by his son, John J. Dushanko Jr, who passed away five years to the day of his passing, August 07, 2019; his grandson, Craig Harger; his brother, Stephen Dushanko; and his sisters, Mary Swider, Alice Yashur, Kathleen “Kathy” Levash, and Theresa Berger.
Left to cherish John’s memory are his wife, Barbara, and their children, Lisa Chimola, South Carolina; Lynn Szafran and her husband, Edward, Kingston; Dan Dushanko and his wife, Heather, Maryland; and Brian Dushanko and his wife, Anne, South Carolina; daughter-in-law, Renae Dushanko, Mountain Top; grandchildren, Will, Madalyn, Cortney, Caitlin, and Carly; great-grandchildren, Kevin and Juliette; brothers, Mark Dushanko, Philadelphia, and Michael Dushanko and his wife, Shelly, South Carolina; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend John’s viewing which will be held on Monday, August 12, 2024, from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, with his Mass of Christian Burial to commence at 10:30 AM. The Reverend Father John J. Chmil, his Pastor, will be the celebrant.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in the Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville.
