John H. Nafus, 80, a resident of Edwardsville, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday evening, November 20, 2022, at his home.
His beloved wife was the late Betty R. Roberts Nafus, who passed away on January 01, 2017. Together, John and Betty shared 51 beautiful years of marriage.
Born on February 28, 1942, in Kingston, John was one of two sons born to the late Joel W. Nafus and Dorcas S. Morgan Nafus.
Residing in Edwardsville most of his life, John was a graduate of the former Edwardsville High School, Class of 1960.
John honorably served his country with the 109th Field Artillery Battalion of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, Kingston.
Prior to his retirement, John was employed for many years by Procter & Gamble, Mehoopany, working in its Charmin Division.
A member of the Catholic War Veterans, Post 274, Ashley, and the American Legion, Post 655, Larksville, John enjoyed the simple pleasures of life such as riding his motorcycle along with his friends and participating in countless charity motorcycle rides; snow-birding with his beloved wife in Port Charlotte, Florida; attending his grandchildren’s sporting events; and going for breakfast every Saturday with his “Saturday Breakfast Club”.
Known for being extremely organized and detail oriented, John also enjoyed woodworking, and was an avid Lionel train collector who always enjoyed tinkering with his many trains. Above all, family was the most important part of John’s life and he treasured every moment he shared with his loved ones. Although his presence will be deeply missed, there is comfort in knowing he is now reunited in Heaven with his beloved wife, Betty – not a day went by that he didn’t miss her.
In addition to his parents, Joel and Dorcas Nafus, and his wife, Betty, John was preceded in death by his brother, Joel Nafus.
John is survived by his daughters, Cheryl Forsyth and her husband, Allan, Port Charlotte, Florida; and Laurie Slusser and her husband, Chris, Hanover Township; his three grandchildren, Cameron Smith and his wife, Alyssa; Christopher Slusser and his fiancée, Bailey; and Kasidy Slusser; his two great-grandchildren, Kane Smith and Christopher “Kit” Slusser; his sister-in-law, Nancy Richards and her husband, Thomas, Palm Coast, Florida; as well as a niece, a nephew, and friends.
At John’s request, a private funeral service will be celebrated. The Reverend Charles Warwick will be the celebrant.
