John F. Puterbaugh, affectionately known as “Pop”, 85, a resident of Harding, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, August 25, 2021, the Highland Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Exeter.
His loving wife is Rose Mary (Furman) Puterbaugh. Together, John and Rosemary celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on February 16th.
Born on February 20, 1936, in Luzerne, John was one of six children born to the late Earl and Mary (Petrie) Puterbaugh, and he was a graduate of Dallas High School.
A United States Army veteran, John honorably served his country for two years during peacetime. During his time in the Army, he served primarily in Germany.
Prior to his retirement, John was employed as an automobile mechanic for John’s Sunoco Station, Forty Fort. In his earlier years, he worked as a steel worker.
Throughout his life, John had a great love for the outdoors, and he greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his dogs. When he wasn’t enjoying the outdoors, you could find him enjoying one of his other pastimes, tinkering around his garage.
Although his presence will be deeply missed, he will be fondly remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
In addition to his parents, Earl and Mary Puterbaugh, John was preceded in death by his brothers, Jamie Puterbaugh, Earl Puterbaugh, and Arthur Puterbaugh; and his sisters, Geraldine Youngblood and Gladys Chaney.
In addition to his wife, Rose Mary, John is survived by his three children, Rosemary L. Puterbaugh, Harding; John E. Puterbaugh and his wife, Sandy, Dallas; and Wesley M. Puterbaugh, Mountaintop; his five grandchildren, Dylan, Cody, Kyle, Kady, and Mackenzie Puterbaugh; and his niece, Lisa Chaney Richards and her husband, Ron.
