John F. Michaels, 71, a resident of Swoyersville, passed into eternal life on Friday evening, July 23, 2021, at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born on March 27, 1950, in Kingston, John was the son of the late John W. Michaels and Lottie (Turel) Michaels.
John was a graduate of Wyoming Valley West High School, Class of 1968, and he went on to further his education at East Stroudsburg University, where he acquired his Bachelor of Science Degree in Health and Physical Education.
John was employed for 25 years as a pharmacy technician at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, retiring from there. Prior to that, he was employed for 10 years as a Health and Physical Education teacher.
An avid sports fan, John also enjoyed his years coaching with the Kingston Teener League, the Swoyersville Little League, and the Forty Fort Soccer League.
In addition to his parents, John W. and Lottie Michaels, John was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Bill Baltusavich.
John is survived by his wife, Gwen (Baltusavich) Michaels; his children, John William Michaels, Swoyersville; and Jennifer Fuller and her husband, Jordan, Philadelphia; his brother, Jim Michaels, Kingston; and his special nieces, nephews, and great-nephews: Chris (Brittany Eisenhauer) Michaels; Joshua and Matthew Michaels; Nikki (Adam Mohler) Michaels; Katlin (Brad) Spear; Kristin (Mike) Filachek; Mason and Milo Filachek; Erin (Sam DeSimone) Baltusavich; and Liz (Ethan DeHoniesto) Baltusavich.
A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville, for the immediate family.
There will be no public calling hours.
