John A. Hrivnak, 85, a resident of Swoyersville, passed away peacefully on Sunday afternoon, August 24, 2014, at Celtic Healthcare Hospice, Inpatient Unit, Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre.His beloved wife was the late Martha M. (Sholtis) Hrivnak, who passed away on November 05, 1999. Together, John and Martha shared over 40 years of marriage.Born on January 13, 1929, in Luzerne, John was the only child born of the late John and Mary (Martin) Hrivnak.Raised in Luzerne, John was a graduate of the former Luzerne High School.A United States Navy Veteran, John honorably served his country for four years during the Korean War. Most of his time was spent serving aboard the U.S.S. Editsto. Upon his honorable discharge on August 19, 1955, John attained the rank of Storekeeper 2nd Class.Prior to his retirement, John was employed for many years in the shipping department of Air Products, Hanover Township.John was a longtime member of the former Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Swoyersville. Following the consolidation of his church, he became a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Parish, Swoyersville.A proud veteran, John was a member of the American Legion, Andrew Lawrence Post 644, Swoyersville.John was devoted to his late wife, Martha, and he enjoyed every moment he had with her. Additionally, John was an avid bowler throughout his life.John is survived by his nieces and nephews.A Private Blessing Service will be held for the immediate family. The Reverend Joseph J.
